Cafe Ritzi - Jomtien

Has anybody been to Cafe Ritzi in Jomtien before?

Its located at 315/170-171 Thappraya Rd. Also right next door to New India Restaurant, and opposite Subways.

It is run by an 87 year old man called John.

Two of my friends who are in Thailand on holiday have been there a few times and have said the food and prices are excellent. They said the food is so nice, they have returned for more, and they are fussy where they eat.

Maybe some of you if in the area may like to try?

What kind of food is it?

My friends say they cook everything - Western and Thai cuisine. There is also a Thai chef there, and John the owner also cooks.

They do roasts dinners, fish and chips, plazas etc.

They had last night a soup starters, main was course roast lamb, and dessert was apple pie and custard, all for 350 bht.

Until a year ago John ran a place inside the complex. I was there on the last day when he closed it down for lack of business - very sad. I was also at the new place, as described, on Christmas Day for a privately organised lunch for a group of friends. Just as John and his team were in the last stages of cooking, there was a power cut and all the ovens went off. All the food was taken to another location to finish the cooking process - and, miraculously, on its return was absolutely cooked. Thankfully, an electrician then got the power back on so we had light to eat by. A memorable experience! The food was fine, though not especially memorable (it was a standard Christmas lunch, after all) - but very competitively priced and served in a welcoming atmosphere.

PS The New India restaurant next door to John's place, as mentioned above, serves good food (the rice is particularly tasty) but the portions of meat courses are on the small side and prices are quite steep. Many members will find the waiter (the owner's son?) rather cute, though...
