Anyone know of a second hand bookshop in Pattaya. There used to be one above Tops supermarket on Second Road but it closed.

Pattaya is not well served with bookshops of any kind, to put it mildly. The only easily accessible second hand one that I knew of, by the Soi Buakao market, seems to have become another casualty. Christianpfc might know of one or two tucked-away ones. Shameless plug: my collection of gay short stories set in Thailand (‘If Truth Be Told’) is currently on sale at Dick's Cafe in Jomtien at 200B.

There is large used book store very near the corner of soi Bukhao, and soi Diana.
Canterbury Tales is shop name, google will bring up a map, shop has large sign, and few tables and chairs in front. It is large second hand book shop as far as Thailand goes.

Thanks for the info. I've heard of it but didn't realise it was so central and easy to get to. I hotfooted it down there this evening. For anyone else going, at the Soi Buakao/Diana crossroads look along Buakao to the north and you'll see Oasis bar about 20 yards away on the right; go down the soi next to it and the bookshop is about 50 yards along on the left. It's a reasonable size, mainly what I would call 'airport fiction' of the Archer, Baldacci, Brown, Clancey, Patterson kind. Virtually no quality literary fiction. Small labelled sections on war, crime, sport and travel guides. A few French and German books. The condition of most of the books is rather grubby and well-thumbed, which is reflected in the price - all the ones I looked at were in a range from 120-180B. Opening hours are 8am to 8pm. There are much better second hand bookshops in Bangkok and especially Chiang Mai, but in Pattaya we have to be thankful for what we can get. As a bonus, there's an excellent eaterie called The Loaf Bakery right on the aforementioned crossroads, which does very good breakfasts, breads, cakes, pizzas and coffee.

I searched Snotface on Amazon but to no avail.

Highly disappointed

In 2016 I made a survey of second hand bookshops in Pattaya:

Thanks for the links. I doubt it is like Hay on Wye, but on the other hand, Hay doesn't have any gogo bars and can be damn cold in winter.

I think there's a general decline in printed media outlets, as the internet takes over. The little shop that used to sell newspapers near Dongtan beach has also gone & to get a proper choice it's necessary to go all the way to Central.

I shall have to check out the second hand bookshops.
