I have been hesitating about posting a report on Santo Domingo as the Gay scene there has deteriorated over many years. Once, there were many bars and an all-night disco loaded with handsome, available hustlers.
Sadly, that is mostly gone. The bars are, for the most part, gone, the disco closed, but the hustlers are still there for the looking.
I have been going there for much longer than I have to Thailand. I first went to the LOS in the early 80's - I was a figure in Santo Domingo a decade earlier.
Today there is a small bar called Friends, filled with hustlers ( locally known as bugerones ), a bar called Esedeku ( high class no known hustlers but never underestimate the Latin openness to bisexual advances), and one called Fagoo.
The area with activity is the Colonial Zone. There is a pedestrian street called El Conde which, where it meets with the Independence park is a cafe called Paco's. Sit there and you may well be found. It really isn't hard. You might even be approached by a fixer.
I now use Airbnb which is very affordable in the Zona Colonial. But, in the past I used a series of hotels all of whom take the ID card at reception and hold it until your guest leaves.
It isn't Thailand but, then, it's 90 minutes from Fort Lauderdale or Miami. I live in a heavily Spanish culture in South Florida so Santo Domingo is very comfortable for me.
I miss the old days but use a series of friends. By 'friends" I mean old hustlers who fix me up with new ones. I'm never alone. There is even a Gay massage place, very discreet no outside signage, that has been there for years called Juan Bin Bin - you can search for it. I even follow their posts on Instagram.
Frankly, it's a beautiful island with terrific beaches and a lovely colonial area. Surprisingly the largest tourist groups are Italians and Germans. They constitute a huge portion of the straight sex tourism area - loads of little hotel catering to the Italian men who come. The upshot is great Italian food. The Germans are at the beach area of Boca Chica. The two groups don't seem to mix. This is a really good restaurant city and I always look forward to my dinners there.
As I said, "not Thailand" Not even close. But, it may be where Thailand is headed.
I almost forgot to mention that the Lido theater is still open, straight porn and guys who want to be sucked - afew bucks to enter - no aircon so it can get terrible but if this is your thing it is, reportedly, heaven.

I have a farang friend that I met in Pattaya years ago. He lives in Ft. Lauderdale and enjoys the numerous boy bars
there. He goes back and forth to Santo Domingo many times a year. He also lamented that the scene has deteriorated
a lot over the last few years. As a regular, he knows many guys, bar owners and knows his way around.
He’s told me that the hustler scene is mostly one way. The customer services the hustler and no reciprocity. He also
likes dark skinned well endowed guys..

I remember attending a conference in Palm Springs and encountering a Malaysian guy who holidayed there every year just so he could meet older gay guys. He had tried Ft. Lauderdale once but he wasn't a hooker and found he didn't fit in. As I recall the schmaltzy Barry Manilow used to commute by personal helicopter from Palm Springs to Las Vegas where he performed before returning to his own bed to sleep

Yes, there were two such hotels the Colon and I forget the other's name, but it might be the David (??) - I stayed at Nicolas de Ovando once - a gem in Zona. There is a lovely one now called El Palacio - some years ago a german restored a colonial era mansion - Spanish courtyards - just great and very accomodating.

Lord, are you sure I'm not you rold friend? Spot on, he and I must pass as ships in the night. As with straight boys everywhere there is a a reciprocity issue. But, as always, not necessarily true. I was with ( one of my few long term companions ) a young Cuban refugee ( since deported back to Cuba ) who was bottom.

With Cuba about the only isles (seems to me, just from reading) worth considering if gay pleasures are your main object.
NOTE for the mentioned germans (and belgians, french etc.); MOST=nearly all of the cheap-o charter-flights (often with cheap all-in resorts) are to the north of this island, which is some 4-5 hrs by wacky local bus away from the capital So. Domingo. Though there should be luxury direct nonstop tourist shuttles too. Direct flights from west-EUR to So.Dom are rare indeed, if they exist at all.
Most of the usual reports/guides still warn sternly about the high rate of criminal activities (hold-ups and robbings).
With a fair lot of mostly dominican ladies coming in Eur for work (the via-Spain into Schengen route works pretty fine for them) one may wonder why the males do not follow up.

Pong, I'm not sure what sort of information you are trying to give. I have been to Santo Domingo over 120 times - I stopped counting a few years back. I was held up once - my own fault dead drunk after an art gallery opening. All I lost was some cash. Otherwise I have had no issues. Cuba is an option, not so easy for Americans as there are still many travel restrictions. Remember, however, while non commercial same sex relationships have been legal since 1979 - you will be paying. That makes it commercial, hotels do not accept cuban/tourist liasions. There is no wink and a nod. Some handsome, young tourists may report glowing sex - most readers of this board will not find it so easy.
As to flights - I get to Thailand on a connection. Don't most people? In my youth I often went to Europe on cheap Icelandic air flights connecting in Rekyavik to Luxembourg city. I have never asked the swarms of Italian tourists how they get there - but they do. I'm not their travel agent. Yes, there is a beach oriented tourist zone in the North of teh Island. Your point escapes me?

Finally, yes I'm aware that many Dominican women end up in Europe. As to your question about why the men don't do the same I must say - who knows and who cares?Since hetero sex tourism is vastly larger than homo it might explain the differences. But, again, I miss the point.
For me, and many others, this remains a lovely place to have a short vacation. Sex is readily available, the men are famously endowed, costs cheap., food good and hotels that give the "wink and nod" are plentiful.
The only caution I give is simple. Domincan men are ( as a result of brutal Haitian invasions ) laregely mulatto. If your type is Chinese/Thai you may not find your type. If you like the Issan type you might be more happy. My tastes are more catholic and I've been happy and always able to find the more pure Spanish looking among the youth. I hasten to add that this is simple sexual taste and I accuse no one of racism by saying they have a preference. I find that argument a poor one indeed.

Thanks for the report. After reading that, my first question is what exactly do they do in bed ?

Are you dealing with nice sweet reliable professional hookers who are versatile & do as the customer requires ?
Or macho top only types ? [I have little interest in the latter]

Do they tend to provide the agreed service at a good standard ? Or do as little as possible, then try to get more money out of you ?

Then, what is the going rate ?

Goji, "what they do inn bed" varies. I've had bottoms, I've had tops and everything in between. The hookers of Thailand are the most reliable in the world (IMHO) and, yet, we have reports of excuses once in the hotel room. I've not, as yet, had them try to get more than the agreed amount but I'm hesitent to define a "good standard" for someone else.
Their rates. Frankly, about the same as Thailand. From 2,000 ahort time to 3,000 pesos Domincanos over night - about 1,000 to 2,000 Thai Bhat.

Actually slavery was well established in the Dominican Republic before the Haitians got involved. Their first invasion ended slavery around 1804. The Spanish regained control and slavery was re-started. Another Haitian invasion in the 1820's ended slavery for good in all of Hispanola.

Slavery was well established but interracial marraige was not. If you doubt the ferocity of the Haitian invasions and the years of rape you need to read more Dominican history as I have done for decades. There is a reason that Haitians are uniformly hated in the DR. Hillary Clinton had ,as a small part of her platform, a reconciliation between Haiti and the DR, For that reason alone Trump was and is rather popular in the DR, as he opposed it.

I’m under the impression that the original interracial children were the offspring of slave owners exercising droit de seignior rather than marriage

Technically you are quite right. However, in the Dominican republic "common law " marraiges are extraordinarily frequent. I ws referring, in the main, to the really horrendous, almost demonic rule of the Haitians as opposed to the slow integration of populations. Ity is a history that shocks me and little does.
