Yes. 100 bt is fair although if I take a taxi from the rank it's 1500 so I tell him before departure that's all he's getting.

Simple. Grab a hacksaw, and give the taxi driver 86% of the coin.

20 to 50 baht is what a Thai would tip, but I guess there are always farang who believe in two-tier pricing

I knew you would the lowest tip possible without paying one. Typical.

I always give 300 baht, but it's always refused, the driver throwing it back in my face, saying "What's the matter with you--don't you know you're ruining it for everybody else?"

I only tip the drivers who take be back and forth between Bangkok and Pattaya, and to the airport, as it's a long drive, especially between the two cities, sometimes in heavy traffic.

According to my friend the minimum daily wage has now risen 20 baht, reaching the dizzying height of 320 baht.

Unfortunately, that minimum wage doesn't apply to gogo boys who can stand on stage for 6 hours and are lucky if they get 100 baht from the bar! No wonder the Thai boys are leaving on droves.

So I think 100 is sufficient for a taxi driver.

" ... I always give 300 baht, but it's always refused, the driver throwing it back in my face ... "A boldface lie. That would never happen in Thailand. (But you knew that).

Not so, the Thais go by bus, the same as cheap Charlie farangs.

I've used the same guy now for over 10 years. He is reliable, has a decent car and does not drive like an idiot. I tip him 200bt pattaya/bkk apt.
