I have been away almost two years. I was ill for some time, a little surgery and a good doctor and I'm so much better that my thoughts turn to Pattaya - or, at least Thailand. I know I go search and search this forum but it does get confusing. So I ask: is there a reliable site that gives good up to date information? Years ago i took the owner of "dreaded Ned" to dinner - he was almost posting, checking and providing invaluable information. As I came back to this board someone posted photos of a digging machine in front of Toy Boys - I know this kind of summary, evaluative information is avaialbe here but is there a current site that stives to curate this information.

Hi paborn, welcome back. Nickysgaypattaya was great for that but has sadly closed down. If you have a very specific question then gaybutton is probably the best place to post it. Gaythailand will also give you quite recent information. Here you'll receive all sorts of answers from all sorts of members some of whom appear to not get on very well. However through the maelstrom of replies there will be a plethora of useful stuff. And its rare that the most up to date info is not available here.

paborn, your best bet is thaivisa.com for responsible answers.
This site does provide answers but many of the responses are nothing more than palaver.

I'm afraid using a word of more than two syllables like "curated" is likely a challenge for many of the posters here paborn  http://www.dictionary.com/browse/curated

There is no curated site such as dreadedned used to be (separate from his forum). There are only sites with moderators of which Thaivisa is one which contain posts of uneven quality.

Palaver: Is that akin to the secret gay language, Polari?

You might be on to something there, mr giggles. I can imagine old queens crying out . . .

Oh my! What a palaaaaaaaver!

As far as obtaining “invaluable information” is concerned, I’m not really sure what that means. Are we talking about which bars are open and which have closed etc? If so, you need look no farther than the recent topic created by newalaan2:

https://sawatdeenetwork.com/v4/showthread.php?19638-February-Thailand-Trip-Notes

Me, I just come out to Thailand and wander around the bars and find out everything first hand. You’ll know everything there is to know in 2 nights. Easy-peasy really and I commend it to the readership.

It is understandable that Arsenal was confused with similar spellings.

Pavlova (food) - Wikipedia
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pavlova_(food)
Pavlova is a meringue-based dessert named after the Russian ballerina Anna Pavlova. It is a meringue dessert with a crisp crust and soft, light inside, usually topped with fruit and whipped cream. The name is pronounced /pævˈloʊvə/, or like the name of the dancer, which was /ˈpɑːvləvə/. The dessert is believed to have ...

still one must be able to see the good side of someone that would prefer to deal with the crème de la crème and crème brûlée rather than palaver and pavlova

Thank you Francois for this list, I shall immediately put to use at least one -- perhaps more -- of those choices, at the appropriate moment, to describe in some obscure fashion the hither and thither nonsensicals of the esteemed member named Cndmatt. That should be fun.

I must admit to having opened the dictionary regarding the word "folderol". If I've ever used that one it was before the onset of my Half-Brained Era (circa 2003. No-Brained Era approaching fast).
I did hit the jackpot though when it came to synonyms for that particular word, and will be happy when using all of them regarding you-know-who: for instance ... "Criminal background checks"

balderdash, baloney (also boloney), beans, bilge, blarney, blather, bosh, bull [slang], bunk, bunkum (or buncombe), claptrap, drivel, folly, foolishness, fudge, hogwash, hokeypokey, hokum, hooey, humbug, humbuggery, jazz, malarkey (also malarky), moonshine, nonsense, piffle, poppycock, rot, rubbish, senselessness, ...

Most definitely bkkguy, I could not agree more, especially where françois is concerned. He is a member whom I meet for dinner and bar-hopping (or a pub crawl as we would say in the UK) on a regular basis. And he is someone I shall miss greatly when I depart these shores next week and head off home.

And thank you Smiles via françois for providing a veritable feast of folderol synonyms that I am sure we can all put to good use on the forum, but in a non-acidic comment sort of way, of course, so as to conform with the forum rules.

Now, I wonder which of the above synonyms will be used to reply to this post?

Dear Jelly,
For some reason I rather doubt that this board's posting rules include the wielding of "acidic" words or grammar. A good thing too, as my middle name is 'Acidic'! And wield we shall, with glee.

Too bad I am in Canada right now and will not be back in Hua Hin until early May. I'd be glad to get down in a "menage a trois" with you and Francois (AKA "The Acidic Frog").
He's been begging me to do so for years.

Naturally, I can only speak for myself, Smiles, and not the other members, but I don’t think I would expect anything less from you, and if the day ever comes that you forget your middle name is ‘Acidic’ then we will surely know that your . . .

Had finally and sadly arrived, but I hope that day is a long way off in coming.

Meet you Smiles? Oh my! The very thought of it turns me into a quivering Jelly, which, if we ever met, would soon be reduced to a gooey mess of liquid Jelly under the onslaught of that well known acidic tongue of yours.

For the curious minded:

I. P. Pavlova is a Prague Metro station on Line C. It is in the Vinohrady district of Prague. Above the station is I. P. Pavlov Square, which is named after Russian physiologist Ivan Petrovich Pavlov. Wikipedia

God, you can say that again. There is a wealth of information here but it takes a long time to cut through the stream of concious ramblings. This simple question of mine quickly desolved from a few good ideas to desserts and prauge subway stations. Sometimes this is just bizzare.

So the answer to your question Paborn is this site has the best/most up to date information. Plus lots of other stuff too. And of course, if all you had received was the answer you wouldn't have all the other stuff and that would be no fun at all. Enjoy your trip.
