Thailand and all it has to offer means it's still the number one gay holiday destination, in my opinion.

Thailand and all it has to offer means it's still the number one gay holiday destination, in my opinion. For elderly sodomites who want a holiday abounding with young prostitutes, certainly. However, is that how most gays who holiday abroad see themselves?

Yes, otherwise they'd go to Torquay for a Cream Tea

There's more to Thailand, Pattaya and Boyztown than the availability of partners. For those of us who have lived much of our lives without expressing our sexuality (and that's a large number of my generation), it has always been a place where we can feel at home, among friends, safe and respected.
This was first exemplified to me in the mid-nineties when I met an old guy, well into his seventies, whose wife had just died and who had journeyed to Pattaya shortly afterwards. Whenever I saw him (we were both staying in Boyztown but at different hotels) he was with his young man, hand-in-hand. I thought it charming. Like many of us, he had found some sort of ease late in his life.
I suspect that younger gays may find this hard to understand.

All that happens is that you, he and every other homosexual isn't confronted. It's got nothing to do with respect. Every Thai knows he's walking around with a prostitute, and they know the same about you. Just because you are in Pattaya, home of sexual perverts, pedophiles, organised criminals and so on, don't think you're somewhere that's typical of Thailand

Hi....I cannot view the pics?

I have asked the mods to turn them around as they always appear sideways or upside down or maybe in your case not at all.
Maybe he is having his cream tea....

Gerefan takes a cynical view but my experiences of travelling all over Thailand from south to far north for twelve years, staying in family hotels with my Thai boyfriend ( and yes, I met him in a bar in Pattaya) suggests differently. He is acutely aware of his role and sensitive to remarks or looks. In all that time, I recall only an odd look from a British couple in a Chiang Rai hotel and a rather abstract sense of unease on a boat-trip to Phi Phi from some Australians.
Even taking into account natural reticence of Thai citizens, P. would have noticed if something were wrong. And told me.
Come to think of it, the only overt hostility ( expressed in Thai, and so I wasn't aware of it) occurred in Central, Pattaya and involved a couple of Thai teenagers.
Of course, my reference to "respect"alluded to other gay travellers in Pattaya.

I hope the motcy taxis don't use the new smooth surface to go even faster. Some hope.

Mr Oliver

There is an ex-pat (Australian?) who was pointed out to me in the Venue, Jomtein, one evening on the occasion of their fabulous Christmas show in December 2017, whose paperback book reflects this very theme: married, assumed straight, wife dies, he travels to Pattaya and falls in love with a boy. He discovers true love.

I cannot imagine how so many men cope when they feel that they have to marry for fear that all around will think them a tad queer. It must be hell.

"Now, listen, honey, I've been thinking, we need to jump start our love life."
"Sure, what did you have in mind, darling, fishnets, high heels, handcuffs, e-stim?"
"Well, how would you feel about donning a Red-Indian headdress, slipping into a pair of over-tight speedos and singing three choruses of Macho Man?
"I want a divorce!"

Almost back to normal.

Thanks for the pics Gerefan2 now I'm back catching up on the forum posts it's great to see Boyztown almost back to normal after witnessing the state it was in during the twelve days mid-February part of my Thailand trip. As long as the Asian visitors keep coming Boyztown will do ok, with Toyboys and BzBzBz normaly pretty busy most of the year, as seems Castro at showtime, and the seasonal Russian visitors keep Serene and that corner lively, and from what I could see on last visit Oscars seems also to have picked-up a loyal customer base.

Not sure about Prisma as a Gogo bar, probably the same as Cupidol just needs to employ a few more lads, but it is a great place to sit, relax and take in the passing traffic. Also a pity about Cupidol, a year ago it was a great place to visit, although with the right boys in place it would do well again but the unfortunate ongoing dark area in front of the former Café Royale looks like it's going to remain a blot on the BT landscape.

I went to Boyztown during Songkran, the bars were pretty dead. Since I was sopping wet, I could not sit in an air conditioned bar very long.

The shows at X-Boys were well attended though.

Yes, not confronted. I'm pushing 70 and no longer care what straight society has to say. Young people who have grown up in a less spiteful world are used to mixing in more mixed environments and, still, get beaten up and discriminated against on occasion. Yet, they have no idea what my generation went through - especially from people like you. We finsd respect aned welcome in the environment that Boyztown affords and are delighted and spiritually lifted by having it there to enjoy.
