Surprised not to see anything on the forums about this.

Seems that there is a gay pride parade today (sat Feb 10th) along with a 4 day festival

Facebook is full of pics of guys done up in their finest for the parade. Looks like a fun day out!

Oh and for a change this doesn't seem to be a farang organized event.... Which is even better... Not some cash grab by the bars to pull in extra punters!

yes it is so much more acceptable to have Boon Rawd Brewery and Central group and their tenants at Central Festival chasing the pink baht instead

!

Quite right. Haven’t seen anything anywhere else either. Nothing in any of the bars/ restaurants I go to.
Hope it succeeds...

There were many boys in drag tonight in the Jomtien complex. Stages were set up and boys were coming and going from Central Festival. Certainly not well publicized..

Apparently not a lot of "pride" from our pattaya denizens.

why?

perhaps someone can help me out here - every link I follow and all the information I can find about this event are just Central Group PR and marketing for the event, throwing a few drag queens and popular DJs out to attract gay locals and tourists to their shopping complex

OK I know I am blinded by my western ideas about "gay", "rainbow" and "pride" etc but are any local gay groups support this? and why should they? and why should the local venues be supporting this apart from an excuse to do a few more drag shows

it would be interesting to see some of the "rainbow" marchers asking Central Group (and most of the other sponsors) why most of their openly gay and transgender employees are mostly employed as check-out and floor staff rather than in senior positions but then that is probably not on the agenda for their idea of a display of "rainbow" "pride"

ask colmx - he was the one who was glad this was "not some cash grab by the bars to pull in extra punters!"

if I remember rightly there was to be some huge "gay" event at Impact Arena last year that some Bangkok gay groups were originally involved in - but again correct me if I am wrong they pulled put because it was just a crass commercial event to attract pink Baht for the sponsors

it is still such early days in Thailand's fight for acceptance (as distinct from tolerance) for "gay" lifestyle that they need to be so grateful for such "better than nothing" events?
