China’s biggest gay dating app has been taken off Google’s app store in Indonesia amid a troubling crackdown on the LGBT community in the world’s largest Muslim-majority country.

Communications ministry spokesman Noor Iza told the AFP on Wednesday that Blued had been removed from Indonesia’s Google Play Store for livestreaming “obscene” content.

“There was some negative content related to pornography inside the application,” Iza said. “Probably one or some members of the application put the pornographic content inside.”

Indonesian officials have called on Google to remove some 73 LGBT-related apps from its Play Store. It’s not yet clear if the tech giant will comply with government demands. Blued reportedly remains available on Apple’s app store in Indonesia.

While Indonesia may be a secular state where homosexuality has been mostly tolerated, a trend of creeping Islamization has many LGBT people in the country worried about their future. In late 2016, right-wing Islamic groups began to exert more pressure on the country’s government, resulting in a series of raids that have arrested an unprecedented number of gay men   taken not only from bars, clubs, and saunas, but from hotel rooms and private accommodations.

Still waiting to hear what this so called "community" actually has in common. As far as I'm aware it's a marketing term made up by lobbyists to boost their self-importance

Hi,
Blued is still available on the App Store. Generally apart from Grindr the gay apps still work in Indonesia if you access them on a smartphone, but the desktop versions are blocked, Hornet desktop still worked until New Year but now is also blocked.
You have to use a VPN to use Grindr or download/update some apps and you need one to access PlanetRomeo/Hornet on a laptop. Funnily enough, Grindr is not blocked and very popular in the UAE and Oman.
Cheers
