The Irish government in their generosity give a Christmas bonus to people living on social welfare - pensioners, carers, the unemployed, the disabled. It's roughly about 2/3 of the normal weekly payment. I got mine yesterday, so can now pay back my sister what I owe her.

Do other countries have a similar thing?

Joe, by the time you get to Pattaya in January we'll know the number of hairs in your nostrils.

Absolutely - the UK gives pensioners an extra £10, unchanged since the 1970s I believe

I don't even have one of those nasal hair trimmers. Still, Christmas is coming,so who knows?

I think you know me well enough to just describe me as Joe, no need for the 552. Anyway, when my mother went into a nursing home, I moved from 552 to 548.

I receive this wonderful Christmas bonus thanks to Ted Heath
