And so also is the song “The Wild Rover” Scottish.
It’s now sung as a drinking song but was first performed in Scotland as the anthem of an anti-drinking crusade organised by the Kirk.
If you listen to the lyrics the theme is very clear.....“no, nay, never, no never no more, will I play the Wild Rover no never no more...”

Great performance from the boys in white.
Don’t get mad Joe when I suggest that this song is more than likely an English folksong.
A ‘wench’ is a common old english word.
The original version had an
‘Alehouse fire’ not the fire mention here.
But who cares abbibbi....
