I suffer badly from insomnia - which is why I'm posting at 4.30am! Are there any late night/early morning bars in South Pattaya? In the past I've just bought cans from 7/11 and had them on my balcony. Is there an alternative? Also, what about early breakfast? I had breakfast at Ambience and it was good, but they don't start serving till 7.30, if I remember correctly. Any tips?

I think bars close between midnight and 2 am, and discos between 2 am and 4 am, all depending on the venue in question and the political situation. But karaoke get busy after midnight and go until sunrise. In Bangkok there are saunas that open til 6 am, and on weekends there are indeed activities until then (info from friends, the few times I stayed until 4 am there was a decline from peak around 1 am). Nowadays I prefer to be in bed before midnight on normal days and before 2 am when going out. Others can probably provide more information.

In Sunee Double shot bar if it has customers will stay open 3-4 am.

I think Christian is right on the money with his post. Go with that.
If you cannot abide Thai karaoke (most can't), not a fan of sauna shenanigans at 5 in the morning, and feel too old for crunchingly loud disco at 4AM, and don't wish to sit on ManForAllSeasons' face at 3:30AM . . . then I'm afraid you, and your can of Leo, and your balcony, will have to get seriously together in a somewhat kinky menage a trois.

Im quite sure Joe has seen a specialist regarding his insomnia. But just in case, here is an excellent website.
Insomnia can be caused by both medical and psychological reasons, and probably both. https://sleepfoundation.org/insomnia/content/what-causes-insomnia

The triad for myself . . . me, my pillow, and my old man, are all it takes for me to fall asleep 10 minutes after pulling up the sheets. Suphots timing is even better, in LaLa land in 2 minutes. Every time. (Though he does wake up when tapped gently on the shoulder. :)) )
Frankly I couldnt survive without my 8 hours. I do feel for Joe regarding this.

8 hours, that's the right amount for me as well. As I wake up around 8 regardless of time I go to bed, I need to get to bed midnight or earlier to get my 8 hours sleep.

Not the op's question, but shouldn't you rather get your insomnia treated than looking for activities during your insomnia?

Thanks for the link, Smiles. Yes christian, I should get it treated, and I intend to talk to my doctor about it at my next appointment. I guess it's the can of Leo and the balcony, then. Actually it can be quite fun watching the comings and goings on the street early in the morning.

Hi Joe, I don't suffer from insomnia as such, but I am generally up all night and sleep during the day, so often looking for late-night bars while on holiday. On a previous Pattaya trip (last November), X-Boys was staying open as a karaoke bar after the shows finished (reduced drink prices too), and I was often there until around 6am. It would also get quite busy with boys (and some girls) arriving after their bars closed, but all singing was in Thai which may not be your thing (not mine either, but by that time of the morning I was more focused on the beer / whisky than the singing lol). I didn't go there that late on my latest trip (last month), but when I was there earlier in the night they did confirm they were still doing karaoke after the shows, but not sure if they're still staying open as late as they were.

On that previous trip there were also a couple of small (straight) bars on one of the 13/?? Soi's (can't remember which one exactly), between Second Road and Beach Road, that we went to a few times. These were open late / well after the gay bars / gogos closed...but again didn't check these out on my latest trip, so can't confirm if they still open that late (or are even still there).

On my latest trip I was at Forest House Bar in Sunee until they closed at 4am, that was on a Sunday night / Monday morning. The boy I was drinking with (who worked there) said they will generally stay open til 4, if they have the customers, but can't confirm that myself. When that closed he said there were still other bars open we could go to drink, but from his description it sounded more like a straight-nightclub, which I wasn't really in the mood for, so didn't check it out.

So...there is hope for a late-night / early morning drink lol.

Breakfast I can't help with, as once I start drinking I don't feel like eating...

Thanks for that Aux1010. One question about Xboys - do you have to be in there before a certain time or could I wander in at 3.00am? I don't mind Thai karaoke too much if I'm having a drink! It seems I'm the only one who eats breakfast early in the morning. Oh well, Ambience it is, at 7.30.

There are some restaurants open 24 hours a day like Kiss at Second beach road you can pop up there and take breakfast whenever you want.h

Joe, re: X-Boys. As far as I'm aware there was no limit on what time you could arrive. Generally I was going there after the other bars closed, so it would have been usually around or after 2am that I was arriving (and no issues with that).

Just had a quick look at their X-Boys Karaoke page on Facebook...they're still posting on there regularly and their closing time is still listed as 6am...so hopefully that info' is still accurate.

4am, that's early for going to sleep in Pattaya! The night is only starting!
As others have written, Forrest house in Sunee is often open very late.

I will be in Pattaya Late Dec/Early Jan and will drag you to NAB until 5... the 300B beers there might be a killer though... so you will have to hit the Whiskey like the rest of us!

There are countless boy karaokes on the back streets of Soi Korpai and Soi Bunkot that are open until dawn... just make sure that you don't mistake the Cute "guys" outside a Tomboy Karaoke as being real guys!

The new Foodland in Royal Garden mall is open 24 hours and does all day breakfast AFAIK

Thanks BOY69, didn't know Kiss was open 24 hours. I've eaten there once or twice, so that would do the job nicely.

colmx, I don't think I could keep up with you and your crew! I'm talking about a quiet place to maybe have a drink in the early hours, I wouldn't be a fan of Thai nightclubs. What happens is that I go to sleep at 11 or 12, but wake up after just a couple of hours, so a late night club would be the last place I wanted to be. We don't all have your stamina!

I can imagine Beach Road being entertaining all night. And you can sit there for free and bring your own drink. Whereas in Walking street you would have to order a drink in a bar to sit and enjoy the passing traffic.

For breakfast, get a meal from 7-Eleven, they warm it up for you in the microwave.

I don't know, you seem to manage the 'strict low budget' route quite easily don't you?.

In fact you probably make a profit. Once you have accepted the 'company' allowance for travelling on a decent airline, which you then cheat your customers/employers out of by booking with a dodgy Chinese/low cost airline instead, you are already 'ahead', then you exchange the business allowance for a decent quality hotel room for cheap lodging, again you're ahead, then you use that to barter down MBs from reasonable living-wage fair expectations for services rendered to as little as you can get away with, sometimes even renting from the street so you don't have bar prices to lay out. My guess is that your business assisted sex holidays actually cost you NOTHING personally.

These are all things which you have previously boasted of....do you spend ANY of your own cash? That would put Joe552 and the rest of us WELL ahead of you in PERSONAL budget terms....BUT Because you have to rely on these dubious work-related schemes to make ends meet, to try and make you feel better about yourself and attempt to elevate your own perception of yourself all that's left is to try to demean others.

You are a pathetic excuse for a human being on SO many levels.

....oh dear...someone is terribly envious...FYI it doesnt matter how I get there...what matters is that I actually do get there. And BTW...maybe i got cash because im not stooopid with it...like paying a MB 2000bht for a fuck when the minimum wage which lotsa Thais are on is BHT300/day.
I have no desire like U to impress the locals by throwing my hard earned cash around.....

....oh dear....looks like I touched a number of raw nerves.... FYI when you diss others about their budget limitations then I'm afraid it does matter 'how you get there'. Joe is using money which is his, you are skimming-off crumbs here and there from your unsuspecting customers and employers. And BTW it's clear you DON'T have much cash, why else would you be using cheapskate, low budget everything on your travels to save money, under the laughable pretence of 'not being stooopid' with it and let's face it, your holiday money is not 'hard earned' it's skimmed-off, syphoned-off at the expense of others.

You are low class as well as low budget in both 'how you get there' and how you go about your business once you get there. The main reason you could never throw cash around is pretty clear....you simply don't have as 'much' of it as you try and portray.

AND BTW, the minimum wage you suggest is NOT for selling your body, there is a somewhat higher 'minimum' for that, quoting a minimum wage for work other than the one that you partake in means nothing, any more excuses/reasons to justify your very own low budget lifestyle?

Not to mention, who would give latin a job paying him to fly around the world to audit other companies? The guy can't even write 3rd grade English. Within 15 minutes, I could have 30 Indians lines up on the internet willing to work for $2/hour who read and write English better than latin.

Commander Dude Matt (freshly back from black ops on the Thai/Laos border) wrote.
"The guy can't even write 3rd grade English."

I know. No decent plot, no exotic characters, no multiple story lines running through a general narrative involving the ups and downs of life, no descriptions of setting/landscape, no story reaching a natural end to be replaced by another and worst of all.......no exciting cliffhangers. Terrible. Perhaps someone could give him a few tips. Hmm. Who, I wonder?

Like many (most?) posters on here I have to pay for my own holidays. Yes I do it through borrowing, from my Credit Union and this time, my sister. All money which will be repaid. I prefer to spend €30 a night staying in Mosaik apartments (close to where I want to be) than spend $100 on a Hilton room. I do't throw money around when I'm on holiday, but I do treat the guys I meet with respect, and pay the going rate for their time and company. When I start my holiday I have a rough idea of how much I can spend each day. This usually goes out the window after a couple of days, so I just cut back - I don't have to off a boy every night. And latintop, I've never paid less that 1000Bt for sex in Pattaya in more than 15 years of going there. So who is the fucking cheapskate?

As for English language skills...really on this board...why bother...tooooo much effort...abbreviated bullet points suffice.. ..
And if any of u jad an inkling of what my job entails...its sooooo boring samo samo samo...different day...same shit...check sheets that simply need ticking yes/no/in progress...and short reports of issues plus remedial actions...all bullet points...no one has the time to read a composition....get real

Thanks for all the suggestions. If I wake up at 3 or 4, the last place I want to be is a nightclub or karoake bar. Boy69's mention of Kiss restaurant on 2nd Road would suit me fine. It's not gourmet dining, but would certainly fit the bill for me.
