For less than one month, no visa is needed.

I've been reading a lot about the immigration/ border folks insisting that tourists / visitors have 20,000 Thai Baht in hand. I don't know how true it is, but I'm going on 24-August and I'll let you know what I find.

I have also heard this is now being randomly asked for if entering Thailand, it's always been a requirement but no one ever asked for visa exemption entries until recently. You can show the equivalent currency it doesn't have to be Thai Baht, so if you have 20,000 in US or Canadian $ that would be fine.

What a silly place to ask for info, I certainly would not book airplane tickets and book hotels based on a one line reply from someone I dont even know on an annonymous chatboard.
As for the 20K bht issue...all seems to be hearsay.....
With this level of intellect no wonder the likes of Trump get elected.

If you are from USA, Canada, and another 40 countries, you can enter Thailand as Visa Exempt - you will receive a 30 day permission to stay stamp in your passport - which, for those that may be interested, can be extended a further 30 days at Thai Immigration for 1,900 baht. Ministry of Foreign Affairs website: http://www.consular.go.th/main/th/customize/62281-Summary-of-Countries-and-Territories-entitled-for.html

Yes, there have been many recent reports about folks with Visa Exempt or Tourist Visas being asked to show cash, but the reports appear to be folks that draw scrutiny as to their reason for being in Thailand, e.g., numerous Visa Exempt or Tourist Visas showing they are staying longer than would be expected for tourism purposes.

or Tourist Visas showing they are staying longer than would be expected for tourism purposes.

In other words trying to work covertly.
Unlikely to affect anyone on these boards....
