A new film is doing the rounds of the festivals, entitled "Boys for Sale"

It is a documentary about "urisen" in Tokyo. These are men (mostly straight, it is claimed), who sell sex in bars in Tokyo.

There is a trailer on Youtube here:

If you look at it, you can see the person who put up the video has some other videos - showing "deleted scenes" which are quite interesting.

Particularly the one about the guy explaining his secret of seduction (basically touching the customers thigh), which is also a popular strategy in Pattaya in my experience!

Tokyo has many boy bars for women also.
It must be a nightmare nexis of "human trafficking " Old men victimised by the young and young by the old guys and old cougar women abusing young men and so on and on ...enough to keep everyone in CNN awake at night.

Is there any information to back up the speculation about trafficking in the previous post ?

I've been to several of those bars & the lads I've met working there are Japanese. Often students making some extra money on the side, although some do only that & have no further career plans. No evidence of anything other than natives making a few yen on the side.
The only non-Japanese I have so far encountered working there were as freelancers on the street. There are very few of these.

The righteous tyranny of the "leftist" west sees human trafficking in everything and everywhere. It's their pass key into everyone's life.
Japan remains a frustrating place for them as the Japanese still have that half-closed society mentality-good for them.
Make no mistake about it but the media people at home will see human trafficking in my walking down Soi 17 with my short-time darling no matter what our private arrangement is.
The feminists in some Universities in the USA have made the campuses a hell for the male students.
Their latest thing now is delayed rape ie women can withdraw consent for a sexual act retrospectively if they "regret" what they did the night or even days previously.

Stick with trying to find strategies for having fun in Japan. Neither you nor I have a chance in hell of understanding what's going on in the States these days.

From what I see on line the scene there is very complicated with bars/clubs specialising in bears, slim, muscular, Japanese only and so on.
I think the best strategy is to book into a gay friendly hotel and go outside and get lost.
It has worked for me in many other countries.
To hook up with a local guide such as the guides recommended here on Sawatdee Network would be a good idea too -especially in Japan.

I've never been to Japan but I will get there eventually I hope.
I have watched many documentaries on this topic.
The bars for female clients are by far the most prolific I think.
The object would seem to be the maximum extraction of cash from the clients through rituals loosely connected to the erotic but never bringing anything to a 'head'
I would love hear from a member who has experienced the gay version.
Of course this documentary will be one of many now when the western carpet-baggers arrive to demonise anything in another culture that offends them and to profit on the process.

japanese are a weird lot..their porn seems to be dominated by bondage/forced/rape...strange people...I have had some fun at crazy parties thrown by Jap friends...but overall a strange mentality..

Of course this documentary will be one of many now when the western carpet-baggers arrive to demonise anything in another culture that offends them and to profit on the process.

And what do the Japanese do?

They smile ever so politely at the "carpet-baggers" and carry on regardless.

Host clubs for women are a huge part of the sex industry in Japan. I've been to a few as a guest of female friends - I think I've written about it here - and was surprised to see women acting like horny men.

My experience with "urisen" is limited, so I would also like to hear from the more experienced members.

As for Latin's description of Japanese as being "weird" and having "a strange mentality," I beg to differ.

OK. Here goes. I visited Osaka recently and visited two of those places, the two most high profile ones. As I have written before, the impression the sites give is that the boys are all there just waiting for your visit. This is not true. The majority are booked online in advance and when you arrive very few boys will be available. One place had just one boy and the other claimed to have six on site but would only let me look at the pictures on the website, they wouldn't let me see the actual boys. Those pictures are over a year old and may bear no relation to the boy today.. So basically what you're paying top top dollar for is an app masquerading as a premises. So, do not go to japan thinking you can simply pick the boy you like and have it away with him because you can't. Also, if you're used to the 'shop' format we so enjoy in Bangkok and Pattaya you'll be surprised at the general taboo that homosexuality in Japan still has round its neck.

I cannot comment on Osaka, but in such places in Tokyo.

1 One bar had about 10 boys in the bar & it's easy to pick one of those, or select someone from the catalogue.
2 Another bar had about 4 boys in the bar & a catalogue. The boy in the catalogue did not disappoint.
3 I've not had issues with unrepresentative photos.
4 Service from the boys was first class.

The main downsides compared with Thailand are the increased expense, which is to be expected & more hair on their legs.
