No visit to Pattaya would be complete without a visit or two to Deli Diner. Breakfast was a little disappointing. The potatoes were hard and the eggs overcooked so no runny yolk. The waitress also forgot the fruit juice so all in all a bit of a let down. Interestingly the lady owner wasn't cooking and it showed.
Dinner was a considerable improvement with the top chef back at the stove. Gravad Lax is a dish that needs quality ingredients or it won't work. The salmon used here was top drawer and had been dry cured. The result was a dark pink colour with little moisture and a deep almost woody flavour enhanced by the dill. A sweet dill dressing was also served and this balanced the inherent saltiness of the salmon.. A main course of sea bass in a cream sauce was equally good. Thick fillets of fish with a golden brown colour cooked perfectly so that inside the flesh was firm but still moist and juicy. The cream sauce was light enough to compliment rather than overpower. Simple strawberry ice cream for dessert which could probably do without the squiggle of whiped cream. Overall I think the cooking at Deli Diner is a notch or two above Cafe John and for me, has a better location. Total bill for three courses with a water was 314 baht. Highly recommended as a dinner destination.
