I'm wondering if any other poster is able to answer the following question:
At which Bangkok MRT station(s) and between which levels is there a prerecorded apology "Sorry to keep you waiting" made in the lift? The supplementary question is: In which direction of travel is the announcement made? Up, down or both?

I can't speak for Hua Lampong; I think thereafter, at least as far as Sukhumvit or Phetchaburi, which is as far as I go, both directions are on the same level

The answer is - Silom MRT when you take the lift between the station concourse and the overhead walkway to Saladaeng BTS. On the way up - no apology. On the way down (but I think only if you call the lift up from the concourse) - apology. I thought it an easy-peasy question (except for your average sex tourist, and even then they're the mass-transit stations most likely), but apparently not

Bob and I were just normal members (sorry, Bob!) but fountainhall was in a class of his own. He's the type of poster who any board owner would kill for - civil, knowledgeable, willing to spend a great deal of time putting his travelogues together (complete with professional grade photos), able to comment intelligently on a variety of subjects, always willing to offer information when asked to do so by other members, incredibly helpful....I could go on.

Yes I do look at the screen, not at all at the keyboard, even though matt seems to believe I am confused :) maybe he thinks we are talking about those pesky touch keyboards, but I am talking about good old fashioned mechanical keyboard, where you could actually feel the keys :)

Justaguy I'm with you and know what you mean as I do roughly the same and I too have one of the old trusted bang the letters hard keyboard ( in work) and a soft touch at home and my work keyboard is SO much easier and faster to type on. Like you I also ( have to) look at the screen as I type and and whilst I'm not a never look down man I have maybe looked down in total maybe 4 or 5 times whilst typing this message, but that's more as I use a mac keyboard at home and PC at work so the lettering is different and it's hard to remember which is which sometimes - but even the 4 or 5 times is whilst sitting typing with only the glare of the screen illuminating the room as I was just passing the computer and glanced at it without bothering to turn the light on when I stopped to send this message. So, I'm with you, I think what you're doing is fairly normal ( to me anyway). I guess Matt if he can't see at all relies on some speech reading . writing software perhaps ?

Yeah, I don't have a mechanical keyboard, but have a large full sized USB keyboard.

And no, I don't think you're confused. However, regardless if you look at the screen or keyboard, I bet you rely on your eyesight for typing more than you realize. I know that was the case for me at least, and it's taken a while to get back to decent typing speed.

First, when have I ever said I'm rich? Please don't put words in my mouth. Yes, I've said I work in the bitcoin industry because it pays better. And yes, I've said we live a comfortable life and don't go without, but that's a far cry from being rich. We're fine, but I ain't no Mark Cuban, that's for sure. All in, we spend about 80,000 baht/month, and I don't know a single Westerner who would consider that rich.

I'm working on getting to Singapore for a 2nd opinion, but all in I'm looking at probably around 6,000,000 baht by the time we're settled into a new house in Chiang Mai. I simply don't have that much right now, but am working on it. That, and I'm not anxious about it anyway. I'm sure the current diagnosis is current and itt is optic nerve damage, which means it's permanent, and no doctor in the world can fix it. Besides, I'm totally fine with being blind nowadays.

As for going back to Canada, why would I? My dad actually came out for an emergency trip to "save me" and bring me back, but I flat our refused. Why would I go back? Regardless of Canada or Thailand, I'm still blind.

At the time I was already terrified, and going back would have meant getting rid of everything in my life that is good and makes me comfortable. Leo, my dogs, home, neighborhood, community, city I've lived in for 7+ yyears, etc. I know every square inch of my house, and same goes for my local area.

Plus I know where in the city to go for everything I could need. Vet clinics, barber shops, markets, groceries, hospital, etc. For example, I know if I need something for the kitchen, go through the front doors at Central, go right, end of the mall is Robinson's. 4th floor, right of the escalator is the kitchen stuff. Granted, I need help getting there nowadays, but aat least I know where everything is.

Plus, although can't say I'm friends with them, but I know loads of people in the area, and they know me. They were beyond amazing at the beginning, as I knew they would be. Just small things like offering me a ride home, helping cross the street, get up / down sidewalk curbs, etc. They don't really help anymore because I don't need it anymore, but I did at first. Their support was of tremendous help, and there's no way I'd have that level of support in Canada, because it's more of an isolated society.

Ok, so I would have to throw all that away, and fly 12,000km across the globe to a residence and city I've never stepped foot in before, and where I don't know anyone, anywhere, anything, nothing. I was already terrified, and doing that would just run the risk of putting me in a massive suicidal depression. Not to mention, I would of had to live with my parents for the first few months, and living with my dad would drive me mentally insane.

On top of all that, who would take care of me in Canada? My parents can't, nor can my other family, and I don't really have friends there anymore. Granted, I took a decent risk because Leo and myself barely knew each other at the time, but thankfully that gamble paid off. In Canada, I would probably of had to move to some assisted living facility, and get fucked if you think I'm doing that. I'll stick it out here with Leo, thanks.

I'm absolutely I made the right decision by staying. For one, I have Leo in my life now, so that's pretty fucken cool. On top of that, it took me about 4 months to become confident being blind, and the first month is a throwaway due to emotional shock. Now I don't really know, but I'd say that's pretty fucken quick, and no way it would have been that quick in Canada.n

What I meant was/is that when we turn against each other instead of identifying the trolling activity/behaviour, the troll master would have succeeded in his objectives. Actually, we shouldn't even bother with identifying/discussing the trolling behaviour - the smartest thing to do is to ignore it - but I'm going to contradict myself for a few minutes by discussing it so please bear with me.

I have yet to understand what Surfcrest did that was so horrible. I'm not brown nosing or anything, but it just doesn't make logical sense as to why everyone is all worked up. Ok, he bans one member, but that member was the cause of countless in fighting within the membership for well over 1 year, and no rational person can deny that. Then everyone shits all over Surfcrest for the decision.

Then Surfcrest shows some mercy, and unbans a different member to give him a second chance. Sure enough, everyone shits all over him again for that decision. It's pretty much a no-win situation for him, so no wonder he feels disenfranchised.

If we want to get pissed off about the condition of the board, we only need to look at ourselves, not Surfcrest. He's not here to babysit a bunch of 60 year olds. He's here to provide a platform and environment for us to converse together, and he's done an excellent job at that. What happens from there is up to you, as individual members. Speaking personally - I am not shitting all over anyone, Surfcrest included, but I don think after his good tenure, which we're all grateful for for sure that it's sad that he chose to let his last few actions be that of banning a regular poster who contributed much to the board - and yes I know others had their many differences with him, but again speaking personally I know I'd rather of read his REAL posts about real situations and real life places rather than some of the made up bullshit, posted for nothing other than the posters personal jollies that seems to be appearing on the board of late.

I passed there anyway. All I did was riding the lift (up, down, up again) instead of taking the escalator. Apart from that I agree that this must be every troll's wet dream to incite a physical reaction (most responses are just verbal outrage).

I have to admit I was confused as I don't use these words myself and rarely encounter them (overhead walkway and concourse), however when riding the lift it became clear you mean what's labelled as 2 and B1 in the lift. But there was no such announcement! And I called the lift up from concourse (B1).
