Pattaya go go bars

Pattaya is down to 12/13 go go bars from perhaps 40 in the past. Such a carnage of a once proud and honourable industry. It makes me cry. The four in Sunee are pure go go bars offering little except drinks and boys which is fine by me. Always love Nice Boys and Eros too is usually fun. Winner Boys and Power Boys are stocked with twinkie winked and so I rarely venture past the front door. Down in Boyztown it's simply dire. 360' Bar has loads of boys but it's impossible to know who works there, who is offable and who is just hanging around. Most of the terrace seating is taken up should you want to sit outside. So a visit there was a little uncomfortable. Kawai Boys and Dream Boys are both offering a good mix. X-Boys has about 8 long in the tooth guys all of whom are also in the show. A couple of nice lookers work the door but are not offanle and one continually nuzzles his heavily pregnant girlfriend in the bar. Cupidol seems to be doing well and Vasser is still in the game. A-Bomb had six boys none of which appealed to me and I could have done without hearing the word 'farang' spoken continually when I'm the only one there. Toy Boys seems to be doing ok for now but one can sit is Prisms and see every boy available for half the drink cost. BBB also is doing ok but with about 80/90 staff on the payroll they need to fill the place regularly. On occasions recentlu it often felt as if I was the only customer in the whole complex.

I think the younger gay generation is not into sex tourism because of financial reasons. The older gay sex tourist generation is dead, or just finished being a sex tourist. So what you see now are the 50-60 year olds. Those who were young at the last time it peaked. The left overs. Newbies like me are rare.

The main reason is: the new generation in the West is less affluent than their parents generation.

I agree the bars add something. But for whom is it easier? The boys? Perhaps - but increasingly unlikely. The owners? Increasingly unlikely. The customers? Many, I expect. But if the customers don't turn up, that becomes the main reason - surely?

I also don't agree that the younger generation is not into sex tourism - nor that the reason is just financial. The key, I suggest, is that whilst parts of Asia offered a lot that was almost unique for gay tourists 20, 30 and more years ago, not many western countries did. Now parts of Europe could be termed sex destinations, much of the Caribbean (have you tried Havana yet?), Brazil etc. And most of these destinations are cheaper to get to and almost as cheap once you are there. I think a desire variety has something to do with it.

Thailand is just slowly coming to the end of a cycle. The same happened in Berlin after the 1920s, and Amsterdam and Hamburg after the 60s, '70s and 80s.

I started visiting Pattaya in 1996 and, at that time, there were only a dozen or so go go bars in the Boyztown area, a couple in Day/Night and a couple in North Pattaya. So the situation today in Boyztown is much the same as in, what for me at least, was Pattaya's Golden Age.
There was no Sunee scene until about 1998 , nor one at Jomtien until even later. In terms of gay venues, as opposed to go go bars, we have much more choice today than then. Of course, the scene seemed busier but then it was smaller. And in those days, although Jomtien becah was a more interesting place to spend a few hours, the restaurants, shopping malls, massage places and even a gay sauna provide more opportuniites for entertainment in the afternoons. I used to find the few hours before the bars opened rather dull. Not now.
There are disappointing aspects today but we should try to look positively at some of the improvements as well.

If you expect a Thai guy to turn up no more than 15 minutes late, there are going to be a lot of disappointments. It always seems to me that being late is built into the Thai psyche. Even in business, being half an hour late is far from uncommon with "traffic" being the usual excuse!!

Only once have I ever met anyone who was using out-of-date photos - in his case well over 10 years out of date. I bought him a coffee, explained why the date would not work and then gave him Bt. 100 for his travel.

I heard a story recently which might help to explain your posts. It's about a farang who delighted in never-ending attempts to create discord.

He came to Thailand to work many years ago and happened to meet a very highly placed government official who promptly asked if the young farang would like to be his bum-boy. The farang envisioned trips to the high end malls, participation in the hi-so life of Thailand, so of course he accepted immediately…..only to be replaced some time later by a younger, more attractive object of the official’s affections. In parting, perhaps the farang received a golden handshake , or a condo, or a life time teaching appointment at a prestigious Thai university. However, he could never relinquish the conviction that he was meant to be hi-so and his sense of self-worth remained at a very inflated level. To remind the world that he was a unique personage, he turned to gay websites to exhibit his self-acclaimed superiority. Truly a sad waste of one’s talents.

How about one of Mozart's pornographic canons? I'm sure there are some for 2 voices. K. 231 would be especially apt, i suggest, It also has the virtue of sounding especially boring -

I've met a lot of miserable farangs in Thailand over the years, mostly in Bangkok...except when they escape the City to share their misery with us happy souls down at the beach. The papers are full of these sad folks drowning at sea, falling off balconies...but occasionally one will join a forum instead, which is where frequent comes from. I heard he can't swim and is afraid of the water and he's not rich enough to rent anything above ground level...so while he's safe, we're not. May I suggest you fine gentleman put him on ignore...a forum's way of pushing someone into a well.

You're saying that as the owner of the board you are powerless to do anything about a thoroughly despicable board member and we just have to wait for him to pass away. There is some legal restraint? Frequent wouldn't last a nanosecond on GBT yet here he's welcomed again and again. It would be interesting to know why you cannot remove him at will, why you feel compelled to offer him sanctuary on this board. Surely there have been enough indications that most board members would like to see him gone. Why not consider their wishes?

He's not saying he's powerless Bob but as much as I find Frequent despicable the time to ban him was when he tried to close the board down with his thinly disguised attempts to run foul of the lese majeste laws in Thailand. Having allowed him to remain it's impossible for Surfcrest to ban him now unless he carries out a suicide post as Kommie before him did. Which sooner or later he no doubt will. To me this confirms his general lack of intelligence because he lives in Thailand and so.....well falang don't have immunity in these matters.

With the greatest respect, why on earth is someone who has been banned not once but several times even permitted to be near this Board? Does this mean that being banned means something different form what I understand it to be? And does it mean that all who have been banned recently under your watch like kommentariat - sglad and Sugargrandpa, for example - suddenly receive a pardon and start attacking other members again? If this vile character is given free pass after free pass, why not others? And if even one gets a free pass, when do we expect Beachlover back within the fold?

I'm sorry but I'm putting no one on ignore. If a twice or thrice banned member is allowed back to run amok, I want to know what he is saying and I will hit back at him every single time. Will that get me banned? Will I then be permitted to return? Frankly I don't care.
