Arthur & Paul is a gay hotel, restaurant, bar and massage place in central Phnom Penh. The decor is achingly trendy and funky but really rather gorgeous with spiral staircases, lush low level lighting and animal skins on the floor. The music is Mean Michell Jarre esque, you know the sort of instrumental music that doesn't go anywhere but goes on forever. Lots of pretty thinly boys are walking about in speedos which is great but the hippo sized farang walking about totally naked...not so much. I had the Salad Nicoise. Generously piled with all the correct ingredients and a pleasant French dressing it was served with a fresh and crusty baguette and butter. If I was to criticise I would say the salad was top heavy with tomato and a little shy with the potato. Together with a Khmer beer the total bill was $8.50. Extremely good value. A delightful touch of theatre after the meal. The waiter places a tiny dish with a tiny white disc in it on the table. He pours a little water in the dish and hey presto, the disc expands into a wet napkin. Classy. Very classy

Arthur & Paul is one of my favourite hotels ever. I've stayed there a number of times and love everything about it.

Not only are the beds the most comfortable I've ever slept in (like everything else in the hotel, they are imported from France) but the eggs Benedict are the best ever! I had them every morning for breakfast, every day I stayed there.

I stayed at A&P a couple of nights but it was the spiral staircase and loud music that prompted me to move. The staircase required me to duck my head going up and coming down (they even installed some padding to prevent serious injury to taller guests descending the stairs). And I guess I just wasn't of an age where I appreciated the sight of naked farangs on display poolside and elsewhere. I moved next door to Rambutan Resort, my favorite. And their eggs Benedict are not so bad either.

I never tried it but I'm sure it did!

I ate out every night at riverside restaurants. But the daily menu at A$P was strictly French cuisine. It seemed weird to travel to Cambodia and eat French food when there is so much delicious local food available.

Most guests at the hotel are European; they do a lot of advertising there. Sure, you see some fat farang but sometimes you see some youngish hot guys. A few years ago I saw a couple fucking by the pool in full view of everyone! (Mmm...not too sure about that one!)

And of course, there are often hot young local guys in the pool or looking to hook up in the sauna/jacuzzi.

Francois. Yes to both ingredients however the best Salad Nicoise I have had here is in the restaurant next to the rooftop swimming pool at my hotel. The eggs and potatoes are freshly cooked and therefore warm.

Fountainhall. It wasn't me I'm pleased to say. And my fees have been published elsewhere on this site. Lol.

Phnom Penh tuktuk drivers are the worst...and the best. They never know where to go, to any place. But they will ask and call and drive for ever until they get you there. A ride in a tuktuk with a coffee at evening rush hour is a wonderful thing. Right in the middle of a morass but completely separated from it.

I stayed at Arthur & Paul last year.
My impression is that its overpriced.

I ended up leaving after 3 nights and staying for half the price at the resort next door.

The breakfast was small (eggs benedict (and not many options, the waiters and staff all seem to be over 30ish, the steam area was unlit.
Wasnt my cup of tea so to speak.

Its however clean and modern.

The young French owner came around at breakfast to talk to customers,I did tell him my impressions.

I didnt end up having any sex ar this place not until I moved into a Riverside Hotel where I managed to get the straighter than straight bellboy for $150 US.

A high price to pay I know but he was the most gorgeous 19yo I have ever seen ,he was half Cambodian and half French,left his Girlfriend to pretend to show me around PP where we went back to my room (in another hotel !)where this eager young money hungry virgin and his big young cock pounded my old butt until he exploded more than 4 times inside me.
