Well I'm going to Japan shortly and I plan to have me some of those absolutely breathtaking Japanese host boys. AsDaRa - when will you realise that your own experience growing up in Europe has conditioned you to a certain way of thinking and a certain logic. You clearly haven't been reading any of the posts on this site dealing with Japan in recent years. Japanese culture (and thus logic) is massively different from European culture.

In the greater Tokyo area alone there are anything from between 21 and 38 million people. Most have been brought up in a typical Japanese household in neighbourhoods where apartments and houses are so packed together you'd expect everyone to know what everyone else is doing. That is absolutely not the case. Japanese have been brought up to see, but not see; to hear, but not hear; to know, but not know. I have written before how salarymen, often middle aged, will be seen on the packed rush hour subway and suburban trains reading pornographic anime books. Everyone on the train knows it. But an invisible wall goes up and so they don't know it. They block the information in their minds. They are concerned only with their own tiny environment (and that of their companions if they are not travelling solo).

Besides, Japanese rarely pry. A mother thinking her son might be gay would never consider looking on the internet. She would never look around for information on host bars because she might have no clue they exist or where to find them. Remember Tokyo covers a massive area. By the time a son or daughter has reached 18, many go off into the city to do their own thing during the day and their parents have no clue what they are really doing - and are not especially interested. Secrets are part and parcel of life in Japan.

When I lived in Japan, many schoolchildren would leave home on a Sunday morning dressed in their school or other formal clothes. They would go to the Harajuku district, enter department stores and head for the toilets where they would then change into the most outlandish youth clothing you'd hardly ever see in other countries. They'd then spend the day on the streets in that area with boom boxes doing their own thing. Not all together. Each small group would be a sort of clan of their own and they'd have their own space which they occupied every Sunday. They would virtually go wild for several hours. Thereafter, they'd repeat the process in reverse and head back home - almost as though they had been praying at a shinto shrine all day.

Japan is a land of huge contrasts, yet surprisingly of great harmony. Don't even try to project your own logic and values on to the Japanese. Even if you go and live in Japan for a year or two, you will never scrape much below the surface of how the country works. And those who actually are able to learn more only gradually begin to realise that the pornographic industry in all its forms is so huge that I believe the amount spent exceeds the country's defence budget. But most of it goes on under the surface calm, order and politeness that they show to foreigners.

Neddy3: I can assure you my research in both destinations will be beyond thorough. For my money, the Japanese boys have some big boots to fill being compared to Thais. But Japan is a country that seems to do almost everything very well and I have no doubt that includes the sex industry. I love the way they treat it like the business it is with superb websites.

I lived and worked in Tokyo for two years. But before and after I have visited Japan almost 100 times (mostly Tokyo), for one decade up to six times a year. In the 80s and 90s I made quite a few gay Japanese friends and got to know them and their lovers well. I also had the extremely good fortune on one of my early visits to meet an American who had lived in Japan all his life (apart from during the war). He even returned to work with MacArthur afterwards and then worked at the American Embassy until he retired. He was married to a Japanese and the experience he passed on to me was invaluable.

Did I write I do not enjoy my time with Thai boys? I say they do not perform like Japanese boys in porn.
