The last sentence is key. Unless they manage to find a way to employ all of these people otherwise how can they expect to end the sex industry?

Isn't another key in the 3rd paragraph - that the industry caters mostly to Thai men, not tourists?

Yeah, this kind of venture always works. I mean, just look at the "war on drugs". It's almost impossible to find drugs in the US now.

All it does is push the activity underground, but that's already basically happened thanks to Grindr, Hornet, et al.

If anything, legalize prostitution, setup proper, clean brothels with required STD tests for the prostitutes, security guards, etc. Keeps everyone safer, tax revenue goes up, the streets become safer, etc.

Unfortunately Purachai did quite well with his Social Order campaigns in Thaksin's first government. Things haven't been quite the same since then.
