View Full Version : How Calm Would You Be With This Fire Blazing Outside Your Aircraft?

Almost unbelievable scenes this morning from Changi airport of an SIA flight with its wing completely on fire. In the 5 minutes it took the emergency services to arrive and the further 5 minutes to put the blaze out, passengers and crew had to stay on board! What chance might there have been of a full explosion during that time? I seriously doubt I could have remained totally calm!

The B777-300ER was about 2 hours en route from Singapore to Milan when passengers smelled gasoline. The captain announced there was a fuel leak and he'd not be able to reach Milan. So they would turn back. As the plane landed, the engine exploded and fire engulfed the left wing.

Why it did not make an emergency landing in Bangkok or another closer airport has not been reported.
