At my 50+ I had no lack of offers "for free" in Seoul from youngsters at Romeo at time of my three visits. Also there is quite lively gay area around Jongno 3-ga station including Coffee Been cafe, locals name it "Gay Been" :) Google map 37.572666, 126.987145

I'm really not sure what other suggestions can be given. You can take a compass and draw a circle around Shanghai measuring a 4-hour flight time. Saigon would seem an obvious choice from what others have written - but it is a little outside your limit. You're really stuck with China, Japan, Korea (South and North should you be so minded), Macao, Myanmar, Laos, much of Vietnam and Taiwan. There's plenty of rent in Tokyo and Osaka. You just need to look at the various rent bars like Kings of College in Tokyo. But if you don't know your way around, don't speak a little Japanese or have a Japanese gay friend, you will likely end up pretty frustrated. I've chatted with a few non-commercial guys from Macao and expect there must be a rent scene there given the prevalence of the casinos and masses of holidaymakers. I have a lot of first hand experience in Taiwan, but not with rent. Indeed, there seem to be very few MBs on the apps. I'd still go with Manila where there is a rent scene and no language problem.

I'm sure Blueskytoday will agree that unless you know your way around Seoul and speak some Korean the chances of finding gay places and getting to know any Koreans will take so much time that you'll be on the plane home before you realise it. Very much like Tokyo, but at least in Tokyo it's not that hard to find the few bars and saunas etc. that welcome foreigners. Bear in mind, too, that since it is rent you are after, few will know much English, if any. Other cities in Korea? Same situation but even more difficult.

For a relatively problem-free short trip not too far away from Shanghai where MBs are available and there is virtually no language problem, Manila really is about the only solution. And it's a helluva lot cheaper!

Hotels are quite expensive, rest is the same as in Central Europe (Czech Rep or Poland). I never pay for sex, so have no idea about prices for sex-service. Gay Romeo is popular there so had no problem to find willing boys without any requests from their side.

Packaging is an art in Japan and a key part of almost any purchase. The problems come when the gift inside does not meet the expectation resulting from the external beauty of the packaging! Minimal it will cost you about KUS$7-8 (if to order design and programming in Thailand, India or Ukraine-Moldova), KUS$10-12 is more real price, and if they made it in Japan price is likely over KUS$15. It is extremely well programmed, designed and its user interfaces have been separately made by specialist in user interfaces. No one Thai bar can afford such price for website with off price 400-500 baht.

That host bar is in the Kabukicho area of Tokyo, a short walk from the gay area.

Is been to a couple of host bars with some female friends, although they weren't as classy as the one shown in the video. (The bars, I mean, not the girls!) Sometimes girls go with their husbands or boyfriends. Unfortunately m a guy can't go by himself.

You have to remember that the host bars in that vdo are totally unlike those with the young guys in the website I posted earlier in the thread. The boys in the earlier one are 'employed' for one reason and only one - sex! The essence of the much more sophisticated host/hostess bars is on flattery, making the client feel like a million dollars, making sure they buy the most expensive drinks, flirting, making polite conversation on a wide variety of topics - and so on. In other words, these guys have to exhibit a whole lot of social skills that the average prostitute certainly won't possess. Quite a few guys will be university graduates. Who trains them, I have no idea, but it is unlikely there will be tuition in sexual services. Surprisingly, sex is not a major element in the up-market bars and some owners insist their hosts never discuss sex and never let clients take them off for sex. The whole point is to keep them in the bar as long as possible.

The amount of money passing hands in those bars, though, is huge. Some is from the client to the bar in the form of hugely expensive drinks prices; some from the bar to the boys in commissions; and a great deal more from the clients directly to the boys. If the client feels really great with a host, she will adopt him so that he is always available when she comes to the bar. Such adoption may also involve providing cars and apartments (as gifts!), other luxury goodies and overseas holidays from particularly rich ladies, some of whom may be in their 60s and 70s. Even so, I am sure sex has to be part of such an expensive arrangement, but who knows?

As for the expense, well of course it's more expensive than Thailand. I think the advice was sought for a trip of just 4 days length, so anyone whose finances are in good shape can splash out for such a short trip.
It might get expensive over something like 4 weeks, or if you keep going back every year, but 4 days should work.
