1.6 hectares? That's just a baby fire.

200,000 hectares though, and now we're talking.

The pictures hopefully look worse than actuality. A fire like this in California or Canada would be a major event especially when a report says it is "expanding".

The Bangkok Post is now reporting that the fire has been brought under control.

Although the southwest monsoon should have brought some rain by now, here in Bangkok there has been just one day of rain about two weeks ago. It was welcome perhaps more because the temperature dropped around 5 degrees than for the replenishment it would bring to the reservoirs. Bangkok's daily highs are still in the region of 37-38 degrees.

Google "Fort McMurray forest fire".

It's 200,000 hectares, over 80,000 people evacuated, and it'll continue burning for months. Ft. McMurray is also the center of Canada's oil industry.
