When I was in Thailand recently, my laptop also presented SGT as a black page, but here in Vietnam I never see that.

If you look at where this Hitler crap began here on SGT. it began with you. You lit the fire, based on what you read over on Bruce's Board...got the flames nice and high and now you want me to step in and moderate the Hitler discussion?

You have definitely inspired me this morning MFAS...thanks for that!

Surfcast, in this case mederation seems too much like "Peace in our time ".
Having just read that you are selling the board I have a better understanding of your position.

Best of luck.

Surfcrest (what does that actually mean?), the most often misspelled name on this forum ("Surfcast" in the op, I remember another misspelling elsewhere here).

Even before Adolf Hitler and Mother Teresa. Here is a mnemonic: there is only one h in "Adolf Hitler", and that's in Hitler, and there is only one h in Mother Teresa, and that's in Mother. That helps deciding f or ph as well. BUT: Alphonse Mucha (Czech Art Nouveau artists).

Well, Surfcrest means a few different things. When a wave crests, or you notice white caps on the tips of the waves...that's a surf crest. When you live down at the beach, you are greatly tempted to name your building after something "beach" related...hence the name...Surfcrest. The building next door is called....Seacrest...if you were so lame as to Google that. Most people here Christian, misspell Surfcrest out of disrespect...not that I'm expecting respect from a simple user name...but there are plenty of examples all over the site of the correct spelling.

With respect to Hitler Christian, you need to appreciate that probably none of us were schooled like you. Some of us were educated long before you were and some of us closer to the actual time of Hitler and some of the insane things he did to the world in the name of Germany. In Canada, we studied the second World War and a lot of those studies included Hitler's rise to power and the reparation payments your country has made after the wars and this black stain of history that will follow Germany to the end of time. No reparations were paid for killed Jews during the Holocaust. Most sensible Germans distance themselves from that and even we, the rest of the world has tried very hard to either forget or to remember respectfully the loss of life that was suffered as a direct result of Hitler and to move on. The generosity of your current Prime Minister is the complete opposite and helps bury this bad history with time. I think most of us here find it bizarre, that you a German of all people wants us to remember that and Hitler. If there's a Hell Christian, he's been roasting at the spit for the past 70 years and a long time yet until eternity.

Surfcrest, I agree with your assessment of Hitler wholeheartedly. Pardon the pun, but you summed it all up in a nutshell.

Here is a mnemonic: there was only one crazed unhinged evil cunt in Germany and that was "Adolph Hitler".......oh no, wait, there were many many more than that it seems as they went right along with his evilness !

You have to love the 'Hitler got the trains running on time' brigade. Yes, indeed he did. Then he used those trains to transport millions of people thousands of miles so they could be murdered. He also used them to transport millions of troops so they could find more people to be transported thousands of miles to be murdered.

Particularly bizarre that a gay German should be a Nazi sympathiser - you do realise, Christianpfc, don't you, that you would have been targetted to be sent to a concentration camp under such a regime? As for the eternal damnation part, I don't think that is the fate of anyone. He's probably just working his way up the evolutionary ladder again, and has possibly now achieved the glorious status of a slug.

Things are seldom black and white. It's claimed that Hitler himself was part Jewish. Some Jews were active members of the National Socialist Party and some were active members of the S.S. The excellent book "In the garden of the beasts" written from the perspective of the US ambassador in Berlin deals with the mundane banality of an evil that permeated all levels of society by stealth.
Regarding Hitler's sexuality- acres of print have been devoted to his alleged deviant shenanigans beneath the sheets with Eva and others. When I watch his body language (clasping his breast, limp-wristed hand gestures etc) a gay queen comes to mind.

A gay queen? Now that would be Ernst Rohm, once a supporter and buddy of Hitler but later a rival who was executed.

Ok.
Hermann Goring flunked around like a gay queen too though he was married at least twice.
Hitler's sexlife was far from that of a hetrosexual male. He never fathered a child (thankfully) as far as we know and his marriage was a last minute sham.
When I look at the newsreel footage of his prancing around it sometimes puts me in mind of the gay queens of Sydney or Jomtien.
Fulsom apologies to the harmless gay queens of Sydney and Jomtien.

Daily Mail

A U.S. soldier has been honored for saving around 200 Jewish prisoners of war from being killed by the Nazis.
Master Sergeant Roddie Edmonds led a revolt against Nazi instructions to identify Jews under his command after he was taken prisoner in the dying days of the Second World War.
Edmonds was one of around 1,000 soldiers taken to the Stalag IXA camp Ziegenhain, Germany, after the Battle of the Bulge.
Inside the camp, Nazi soldiers tried to sort the Jewish prisoners from everyone else, which would almost certainly end in their death.
But rather than comply, Edmonds ordered his men to refuse their instructions, declaring: 'We are all Jews here'.
In recognition of his bravery, he has been awarded the highest honor by Israel's Holocaust memorial.
Nazi leaders had told the Jewish soldiers to assemble outside their barracks one morning, to be taken to labor camps where they would almost certainly die.
But Edmonds, of Knoxville, Tennessee, ordered the entire contingent of 1,000 U.S. servicemen to join them, saying the Nazis had to kill all of them or none.
Even when threatened at gunpoint, Edmonds didn't budge, and his gambit worked. The Nazi official backed down and around 200 Jewish soldiers stayed in captivity with the others until they were liberated.

I'm still a little perplexed by the "return Germany to its former glory" thing. I mean, it lasted less than a decade, and nearly the entire world fought against it, so how glorious could it have been?

Now the Roman empire for example you could call glorious for many different reasons, but the Nazis? How the hell is that glorious?

1933 to 1945 is more than a decade, but I agree it wasn't a glorious time by any measure.

Depends how you look at it. Poland was invaded in 1939.

OK, but its rather a desperate stretch to attempt looking at it that way; Hitler and the National Socialists were in power until mid 1945 [though the last few months were no fun :D ]. By any reasonable man's way of looking at it, that's pretty much 'more-than-a-decade'.

Again, depends how you look at it. When did WWII start? When Hitler rose to power in 1933, or when the Nazis invaded Poland in 1939, prompting the UK and France to declare war on Germany?

I personally go with the latter, meanig WWII in and of itself lasted about 6 years. Germany invaded Poland Sept 1st 1939, Japan formally surrendered on Sept 2nd, 1945. So 6 years and 1 day to be exact.

A bit less actually Matt as war was not declared until 11.15am on September 3rd although preparations had begun earlier.

Many atrocities perpetrated by the Nazis started or were prepared even before they came to power, but in 1933, it all became institutionalized. With regards to those many victims of the Nazis who died say in 1933 or 1934, or later but not as a result of the war they've unleashed (holocaust? political rivals? gays?), your focusing on WWII alone seems rather ignorant.
