On all my previous visits I have always stayed in a condo in the jomtiem area. I have now retired so looking for something a bit cheaper. Does anyone know of a good hotel in this area for under 1000bht tops a night near to the jomtiem complex> I have been told there is a new one due to open near to the Ritz

Not sure about Jomtien Complex specifically, but I would imagine there's loads all over the place. Just stroll past the bars there, and you'll see signs for rooms available in many of them. They generally range from 600 - 800/night, and can sometimes be surprisingly nice. Just ask if you can take a look at one of the rooms, and see if it's for you or not.

Considering it's just a lady bar or whatever, you wouldn't expect much for the rooms, but they can actually be far nicer than you would expect.

From Nicky's website:

Tucked away in the small soi in the corner of Thappraya Road and the gay beach road is the D.D. Inn. Possibly the cheapest gay guesthouse around, advertising rooms at 500B per night. TheyтАЩre pretty basic, but they have air conditioning, a T.V., shower and clean sheets. ThatтАЩs all I want. ItтАЩs really a case of you pay your money and take your choice! For a budget hotel this is my number one choice and IтАЩd recommend anyone to go here.

I wonder if "X" is still working there. See their Staff photos. (!)

The Siam Guesthouse has good high season rates at 900 baht. http://www.siamhouse.net/gay-pattaya-ro ... oom-rates/ (http://www.siamhouse.net/gay-pattaya-rooms-and-suites/room-rates/)
The Siam House is right in the middle of Jomtien Complex. I've never stayed there.

The Venue Hotel is just over 1000 baht for a superior room in high season ... and is an even better deal under 1000 in low season. Unfortunately low season is finished now, but you might want to remember it for your next trip. For those on a budget - as you say you are - low season in Thailand is the best time to come. http://www.thevenuejomtien.com/rateroom-thevenue.php
I've stayed at Venue many times and it's worth the price for numerous reasons.

If you are talking long term, such as one month plus, there should be many condo units available for less than 1000 TB/day.

I would pick through the list on the following site & if you're staying for any length of time, negotiate the price.

Hopefully some members might actually have tried these places. Not me, I stay in South Pattaya.

I stayed in Question Mark guesthouse (above the bar) several times and was happy with their 600 Baht rooms, whereas the 500 Baht rooms are a bit too basic for me.

I asked in 2013 or 2014 with a printout from their website https://ddinn.wordpress.com/photos/staff/ and he was gone.

I remember the Ganymede.... now Zing.... had a room for under 1000 baht at one time. Not a bad place. ( http://www.travelgayasia.com/venue/zing ... -ganymede/ (http://www.travelgayasia.com/venue/zing-resort-spa-ganymede/) )

I know you asked about Pattaya, but there's a hotel I found in Bangkok that's 1000 baht too.... and surprisingly, not that bad. It's called "Honey Hotel"...
