ThailandтАЩs first LGBTI protections come into effect - Anti-gay discrimination is now punishable by up to six months in jail and a 20,000 baht fine.

ThailandтАЩs first law specifically protecting LGBTI people came into effect on Wednesday (9 September).
The junta-appointed parliament passed the 2015 Gender Equality Act in March, which punishes discrimination based on gender identity and sexual orientation with up to six months in jail and a 20,000 baht fine.

Good progress for LGBT people in Thailand or will make absolutely no difference on a daily basis to LGBT people's lives perhaps ? What do you think ?

What's in it for the police and those in authority to enforce this law? I can't imagine too much tea money is in prospect. And the way Thai society is organised, the powerful can disregard this law with the same impunity they do every other law. Worst case scenario they just run away to a monastery for few months

At least it's good for PR.

Next thing you know they'll make prostitution illegal....

( Oh wait.... They already did. :D )
