I know this topic has surfaced before but I would really appreciate some fresh information about Phenom Pehn preferably from someone who has visited PP recently.

I'm planning a short 4-5 day trip to PP in October and would appreciate suggestions related to airlines, visa process, gay oreinted hotels...pitfalls to avoid, and of course the boy hot spots.

I've seen enough Wonders of the World to satisfy me in this lifetime and not the least interested in seeing any more. I'm sure Angkor Wat is a wondeeful experience but a post card showing the wat from a local 7/11 will more than suffice.

I know the gay scene is very subdued as compared to LOS but it would be helpful to know the best spots.

Thanks in advance.

You would be well advised to visit the World Forum, where there are a lot of recent reports, particularly from a447 giving blow by blow acounts that suggest that PP gay life may be more exciting than you are expecting.

Wouldn't it be better to post this question in Gay World where a447 is posting his (porno)graphic exploits in that very city

I hopped over to the Global Forum and read a447's detailed account of his travels in Phenom Pehn but unfortunately the information is out-dated and not exactly what I was looking for.

Outdated?? I only left PP 2 days ago! The info can't get much more current than that. You must have read my reports from previous trips. I was there in October last year and January, March and June this year.

Laughed out loud! Queens are so demanding nowadays. I remember trolling round Taipei many years ago with a Spartacus that was a good eighteen months out of date in it's information. I found the first four places had either moved or closed, but success at the fifth!

April this year was my second time there. The three main bars are Rainbow bar, Blue Chili and 2 Colors, try to include a weekend in your plans as the bars will have a drag show popular amongst the locals. If you want something similar to D.J. Station and for the late crowd there is Heart Of Darkness.
I stayed at the Manor House a gay guest house only drawback Is its location you'll need a Tuk Tuk to go anywhere. I'm not a Suana/Message fan however supposidly there are a few good happy ending places, look on Gay Utopia Asia and some posts here.
As an American Dodger you'll appreciate that all the ATM machines dispense U.S.dollars only small change usually less than a dollar will be Combodian Money.
There is another gay owned hotel by the riverside front almost the same price as Manor House called Bougainvillea, if I went again that would me my choice nearer to everything and a bit more upscale.

MFAS...Thanks for the info.

If I knew you were there in April I would have flooded you with questions during one of our get-togethers in May-June.

Finally some bar suggestions...just what I was looking for.

I'll check out Bougainvillea.

Cheers

Some of the "gay friendly" hotels in PP are only friendly if your partner checks in with you, and they do not allow joiners. Check before making a reservation.

Spot on, Bob. That's why I choose hotels in Asia which are orientated towards gays.

Arthur and Paul Hotel is quite far from the riverside, but even so, is only about 10 minutes by tuk-tuk. And there are always tuk-tuks waiting outside if you need one. The hotel is also next door to the very gay -friendly Rambutan Hotel. The manager is a gay Thai guy who is a regular at Space Bar. I've never been inside but the lobby looks great. But I don't want to stay in a hotel with kids running about.

Hi,
Airlines flying to Phnom Penh from Bangkok are Thai Airways, Bangkok Airways, Cambodia Angkor Air and Air Asia. The first three use Suvarnabhumi which is good for connecting flights, Air Asia fly from DMK. Cambodia Angkor Air can have some bargain fares and they're full service.
Rambutan Resort is a great hotel and next to Arthur and Paul as a447 says. There are in BKK1 which is quite a way away from the action on the riverside but there are always tuk tuks outside. Manor house is also a tuk tuk ride away from the bars. Bouganvilla has a great location and another option on the riverside are the rooms at the FCC. The 6 rooms are located on the first floor on the way up to the restaurant so there's no one to monitor who you bring back or leave with. It's walking distance to the bars and there are plenty of restaurants around. The FCC rooms can be noisy at the weekends though but if you're out late it's no problem.
The bars have all been mentioned previously. The apps are busy.
Cheers

The last few times I've stayed at the Rambutan there have only a couple of families with one or two teen age children. Management realizes that most gay guests would prefer an adults-only establishment.

Arthur & Paul is "clothing optional", probably fine for those who want constant stimulation, but I'd rather stay where clothing is required and sex takes place in the privacy of one's room. But that's just me, at 75. Each to his own....

I love the fact that Arthur and Paul is "clothing optional " - the local guys are really hot when they swim nude. But I keep my clothes on - nobody would want to see me nude.

As for sex happening in front of everyone, I've only seen it once, and that was a while ago. The management is still talking about it. As far as I know sex takes place in the room or the sauna, which is much more appropriate. I think the two guys just got a bit carried away, but they finished the deed in their room.

That appeals to me, however I'm not so keen to pay $110 or more per night for a hotel room, when I can get clean comfortable rooms in the city for less than half that.

As for flights, you are not the only one who prefers sleep -when the plane departs is a big factor for me.
I'm not at all keen on getting up very early to make a 7:00 or 8:00 am flight to Cambodia. Particularly when still adjusting to getting up 7 hours early after arriving from Europe a couple of days later.

Thanks for all the great information...much appreciated.

I think I'll lodge at Bouganvilla due to its location. I would much rather be close to the action and avoid the repeditive tuk tuk rides.

Thanks again
