Hi All
Things change so quickly with the fickle Gay Thai crowd
Just wondering if anyone knows what is considered to be the"in" place in Bkk at the moment?

Note: I am looking for Thai syle disco/pub like NAB, and not farang style like DJ.

My nose tells me thats its AppArena on Ratchada Soi 8 is the place to be (judging by the number of Tags it gets on Facebook)
But curious to know if others have other opinions?

Thanks In Advance!

I guess either App Arena or G-Star Pavilion. Fake (moved from Otoko) was empty when I went. Ramkhamhaeng 89/2 in decline. There are more around (Weclome in Sukhumvit 71, small and crowded; Ifone pub - haven't been yet). Details on my blog.

I favor G-Star Pavilion for food court opposite and road easier to cross (whereas App Arena is on Ratchada, even at 3 am you have to wait to cross, if you want to get taxi from opposite side).

Food is an issue for me, Rkh 89/2 has a 7/11 and foodcourt, G-Star foodcourt (limited choice when disco close), App Arena and Fake close to nothing (there is probably one food card outside).

My vote goes to App, hands down.

Wherever you go, I am curious about the details (how many in your party, do other boys join, exchange phone numbers or directly take boy with you).

I have been over five times (combined) this year, alone or with friends, and not much luck (I don't go for singing or dancing or drinking, only for hook up). Exchanged Line twice, but then the usual problems: too far away, no or slow reply, busy.

Not even the boy I went with came with me in one case, and in the other case he came with me, but was drunk and puked on my bathroom door mat and turned the mat around instead of cleaning it the following day (after I woke up and found him wanking to gay porn on his mobile, he didn't want me to join or even watch).

I've been to App Arena three times so far this year. My local BF said that it's a bit more HiSo than G-Star. Each time has been as part of a big group of people. Last time there was an older farang wandering around and it got a lot of negative comments from the locals. I don't think it's particularly cruise-y. Having said that, once one of the coyote dancers was very flirtatious -- but I assume he was a money boy. Best to go with a group, get rip roaring drunk and have a great time.

I didnt' see many Farang in these places, one or none apart from me. What exactly were these negative comments about?

In this particular case the farang - grey-haired but quite handsome - was what I would describe as aggressively cruising. He would walk around the main floor and stand next to a group of guys and stare at one or two of the guys - hoping for some sort of reaction I guess. As you know, given how crowded App is, "next to" a group of friends really means in the midst of, and it came off as bit intrusive. My Thai friends' comments were along the lines of "This is not DJ [Station]." "Mai dee"

Looks like its AppArena on the cards for the 1st night in Bkk so
Silom gets the 3rd night, whilst the 2nd night will probably be spent in Tum Nan Issan Bkk!

If you were trying to make me jealous, you have succeeded. LOL

Have a great time. Be sure to post an update on the Pattaya clubs and fun. I assume you will have everyone good and warmed up by the time I arrive (after Songkran).

Sounds like a solid plan, but our visit to Tam Nan Issan last trip in late February ended up in a shock. We were in Maxis until about 1.30am and bf was still in party mood, also we had invited one of the waiters there who we've known for a while to sit for a drink as he always looks after us well and is good fun, his older brother who also worked there lost the army lottery and was posted, so he was on his own and Tam Nan was in his area. So bf and I headed first with waiter to follow when he finished at 2am, still plenty time we all agreed! Bf and I got to Tam Nan at 1.50am place was packed, spotted a table, spoke to a waiter..that table ok? Are you sure? we close in 10 mins at 2am! WHAT??

Spoke to a Bkk based friend on phone for another recommendation close-by but it seemed all places were closing at 2am or earlier! Don't know if it was just the 'atmosphere' at the time of our visit, or if this was the 'new norm'. We didn't think for a second the possibility TamNanIssan might close by 2am!

(We didn't consider DJ or GOD because we wanted thai-style as well as our waiter friend just being shy of 20 years at the time). Not sure about current situation with regard to Bkk thai-style club closing times.

Maybe that's exactly your problem. I cannot help but think that your attitude or single-minded expectation might show - put bluntly, I could imagine that you are kind of wearing it. So you go to a place where all the others sing and dance and drink - in other words, party and have a great time - but you want none of it. Fair enough, but why would these guys then take an interest in you, seeing that you're the only one not enjoying yourself for whatever strange reason? I like discos for what they are, and if I didn't, I simply wouldn't go.

The time and place for a hook up at this kind of venue is nearby the exit (or even outside) at closing time. Earlier and inside it's crowded and people tend to stay with their groups of friends. No need to take my word for it: next time you go, just observe how many last-minute deals are made when it comes to deciding who leaves with whom. Some are still undecided when they're already boarding their taxi (or leaving in their own/friend's car in the parking lot). :))

I am well aware (personal experience) that closing time is the most interesting to make contacts (or before closing in the toilets) and already pondered arriving at closing time and waiting outside (saves money for a drink and I don't have to endure too loud music; but I like the laser show and coyote boys). I once spotted another Farang sitting alone and reading on his phone throughout, good use of his time.

My spies tell me that g-star pavillion is now closed :-(
So app arena is even more popular than before
For those of you that haven't been here are some pics (shamelessly stolen from my farang travelling companion!)

BTW - a lot of the pics here will be the syuff of nightmares for most - but some of us like this kinda stuff! (or at least we do for now!)

" ... BTW - a lot of the pics here will be the syuff of nightmares for most - but some of us like this kinda stuff! (or at least we do for now!)"
Must be talking about me, unfortunately.
What I see in the photos is not all that enticing for a semi-claustrophobic. Wish I wasn't but I am. That never ending tightly-squeezed ambiance signals "no fun" for me. Places like tawan daeng (and music bars of that kind) can get very crowded, but it's not quite the same somehow ... it leaves no anxiety for some reason.

But please Colmx, knock yourself out.

I read that announcement on facebook, but didn't want to spread rumors. They had an awesome laser system.

Wave Club Ramkhamhaeng is rather quiet (over 50 customers on Friday night), G-Star and App had hundreds of customers on weekends as far as I remember from visits months ago. Will go again soon for updates.

The good thing about G-Star and App is that even on weekends, they are full, but not crowded. I don't go to DJ station on weekends any more, not because I'm claustrophobic (I'm not), but because I want to walk around freely. DJ is like a human traffic jam!

Small update:
Wave constantly about 50 customers (half full) no matter what day of the week,
Fake (changed name to Next Gen) extremely busy on weekend (estimated 500 customers when I was there around midnight, too crowded for me),
App Arena some customers outside around 10pm,
G-Star Pavilion closed (walked past, confirmed by asking on facebook - I asked if they moved and got reply that they closed),
no news about Sake (haven't been for a while)
(did I miss any?)

Does anyone have first hand information about coyote boys in Next Gen (former Fake), App Arena, Sake?

I'm tempted to ask when these venues are checked for fire safety and escape procedures?
Every week? Every month?
Or maybe when the monks have left and the charred bodies are taken away?
