Do you approve of "money boy" pics (nude or otherwise) being posted on Sawatdee?

Can we have a fourth box Surfcrest stating:

Yes, if the poster assures us he has the boy's permission.

I'm afraid that I don't approve, unless as Jellybean says it's with explicit permission. It's probably a generational thing in my case, I've known the fear of being outed in decades gone by. I'm also aware of the grief that reverse image searching on sites like TinEye can cause someone and I imagine in certain jurisdictions there would be legal if not criminal implications. Just my noob 2┬в worth.

Asking the Thai boy first whether he is OK with having his photo(s) viewed on a message board is just plain courteous and respectful behavior. Going even further, it might be a good idea to attempt explaining to him what the future consequences of such publicity might be.
These Thai boys are young and rarely look far into the future, or think very much about higher implications. I was all over that philosophy when I was 21.

There are many reasons why he would decline ... not least of all having his family view them by means of the WWW being ridden with a million folks who hunt-&-share images for hobby. I have no idea how this would happen, but it surely does happen, frequently.

On the other hand, the boy being 'in-the-business' could easily believe that any publicity is good publicity: self-display might well be part of his business model. He might say 'yes' to some photos (i.e. some cover-ups) but say 'no' to dicks-out. Such limitations should be completely respected.

Notwithstanding the issue of possible identification or embarassment to the boy - surely we must be cognisant of the potential for some members being utterly distraught to see their "I miss you, I wait for you, I love you forever" boyfriend's photo posted in the money boy section.

I mean - we do not want to be responsible for any balcony leaping during the season of goodwill, do we?

Do not know why the owner even thinks a poll is needed. Posting pictures of money boys is amongst other things a gross invasion of privacy. "Permission" is not relevant. Branding people prostitutes by showing their photo could also leave the web site open to all sorts of legal action including for defamation etc. This is a gay discussion forum not a introduction service for customers to meet hookers.
On another gay forum there is one particular odious and unpleasant poster who is allowed to post pages and pages photos of prostitutes many of whom are patently under age and then discusses with other poster on that forum the sexual activity with these unfortunate victims. Clearly that has become a pedophile exchange and I am surprised the authorities have not as yet taken action.
But wait and see......

I'm not sure it's an invasion of privacy if the boy already has put his photos on social networking sites for all to see - and some of these photos do reveal all. I voted 'no' because I am not sure how anyone can really define "money boy". If this is someone who makes his living by working in a go-go bar or some similar establishment, publishing photos may be fair game. After all, many bars have staff photos on their own sites which are in the public domain. But reading comments in this and other forums, it is clear that some posters have made comments about guys who have full-time jobs or are students. They connect via a social networking site and then the guy is given some money. Is anyone who does not work in the sex industry but seeks and/or just accepts money automatically a "money boy"? Not in my book. How about those in Bangkok who only seek and are only given taxi or travel money?

Getting the approval of the boy is surely another pretty grey area. "Can I take your photo?" is one thing if it is purely for private use. Is it spelled out to them that it will be posted in a chat room forum along with sometimes pretty explicit descriptions of their sexual prowess or lack thereof? Although many photos are only accessible to members, joining a chat room takes only a minute or so. Do the boys realise that anyone can then copy the photos which may soon appear in an array of tumblr and other sites? Again, if they are essentially prostituting themselves, it probably makes little difference. If they are students earning a little to pay for tuition, to me it makes a huge difference. Some posters clearly disagree.

There is also the legal issue about prostitution. As zinzone points out, there must surely be a danger, however small, that the authorities will consider any site focusing - even in part - on photos and recommendations of "money boys" as a prostitution introduction service. Even though there are lots of Thai sites which are more explicit, the present authorities might consider it a big PR coup if they closed down a site they adjudge to cater almost exclusively to the sexual desires of expats and visiting sexpats!

I agree with everything you wrote, zinzone. Even naming and labeling someone as a "money boy" much less posting their photos is unethical.

Does anyone know a site where the "moneyboys" post pics and comments on the farangs that off'd them?! ;)

What I would say to Zinzone is this:

If you truly believe that another "gay forum" is bring used as a "paedophile exchange" (which I find incredibly hard to believe - but as you do not give details, how are we to judge), then surely your first action should be to stop going there. Your second action (should you be VERY sure you're 100% correct) might be to inform the IWF or other authorities.

Either of those actions might be reasonable - but you have not indicated that you have taken either of them.

What I would suggest is NOT reasonable is to come on to SGT, decline to name the site in question (thus smearing all gay forums) and just bitch about it.

Then, after smearing every other gay forum with those accusations of being a "paedophile exchange"' to also complain about OTHER people's posts as bring potentially defamatory, just makes me chuckle.

Of course, it is up to Surfcrest where he wants to go with that sort of thing - but I think most people on SGT have, over the last few years, had a bellyful of inter-board wars and talk of defamation and libel

Just sayin' like

I agree most of what is said above by fountainhall and zinnzone.
If I recall when the now defunct bitch forum posted pictures of some farangs who contribute to or own various Thai forums there was outrage, so I see no difference to that and what is happening with Thai boy photos.

I could care less, but just remember, pornography is illegal in Thailand. You start allowing nudes, and it wouldn't take much for a cop with a grumpy attitude to decide you're a pornography site.

Yet Bangkobois, a site which many read and enjoy and which certainly has a mass of interesting and useful articles, now has fully nude photos splashed all over almost every page. Its opening page even has an explicit photo of a full orgy underway! There are also the masses of tumblr sites showing fully nudity and erections. As no action is taken against them, I'm not sure the occasional nude pic here would be much of an issue. But that is clearly a matter for the Board ownership to weigh up.

wow, this topic has taken on a life of its own. On another note its actually quite refreshing how it HAS'NT descended into personal insults. Personally i do regret posting the one slightly risque pic and am glad its been deleted. Afterall just like Vegas...what happens in the room should stay in the room.

Some would say that prostitutes are one step above their customers. So no harm showing pictures of customers on this forum, right?!
But do you really want to see nude photos here of the likes of latintop, Scottish git or lonely wombat etc., to name but a few.

Interesting thread.

I have to admit, I am curious to read and see others' experiences/offs, with names and numbers of boys in bars. I read posts on the gayromeo thread with great interest.

I would be even more interested what the boys talk about us.

I largely refrain from posting pics on my blog, but consider names (and home provinces) and numbers and stats (age/weight/height) ok. If anyone has objections, please let me know.

Most boys speak limited English, so it would be difficult to explain the idea of posting their pics on a forum/blog to them. Of course, you could take yes (meaning: "I don't understand") as permission.

There is a website http://www.gboysiam.in/picpost/ that clearly offers prostitution service and has explicit pictures, the site got recently banned and had to change address. Details here post292333.html (http://sawatdeenetwork.com/forum/post292333.html)

I would be even more interested what the boys talk about usI can't think why unless of course you're one of those ghastly people who need "feedback" so you can "improve" your relationships. Otherwise it's like all good gay sex - as that Sinatra favourite almost has it, strangers in the night, exchanging semen - except that you're paying and they're getting paid.

If some are worried about future problems caused by some photos because of their naivety, maybe we should inform them of the future problems they may encounter from having sex with us. Such as developing penile, anal or mouth cancer from the invisible HPV virus which is ubiquitous amongst all of us.

Neither that, nor the voyeurism of Christian.

The poster explains his version. And of course he is always right.
We lack the opinion of the other party.
It takes two to dance, and I think, the "dud", when it happens, is certainly not always the boy.

It would maybe bring some humility to certain reports.

Not a chance in hell, I know, but one can always dream.

Do not know why the owner even thinks a poll is needed. ....
To be quite honest, I had no idea how the membership felt about the issue and I'm also surprised at how many members took the time to make their preferences known with this poll.
Not that the numbers are huge, compared to the 800 or so registered members here...but it's a lot compared to other polls we've run in the past.
I think the discussion brought up more good points as to why we don't want to post money boy photos here and so as I indicated on the other thread, we won't be allowing this.

Thank you very much to zinzone for opening my eyes fully to the issue.

Neither do I , and I'm sure the boys would also disagree . They are not "objects" but real people.
