I'm wondering if there is any noticeable change in the behavior of Taxi Workers? I remember Babylon having a post about the cost to take a motorbike from Babylon to Saladang and it was around 30 baht but the guys waiting for customers outside charged far and above that rate and would sometimes settle for 50baht.

I also read that Phuket now has true taxi service with metered taxi's and Bangkok style taxi service at the airport. One of the main reasons I stopped going to Phuket was because of the extremely high taxi rates.

How about Pattaya? At night are the rates still higher than before the bars close?

I wonder if things in Chiang Mai have changed any with the tuk tuks?

Mocy taxi stations in Bangkok and Pattaya now have price tables in Thai:

Wherever taxis or mocy are waiting for customers, you can expect to pay a higher price.

Phuket has a public transport system that is sufficient for my needs. I saw few genuine taxis (like those in Bangkok, windows, aircon), what they call "taxi" in Phuket are all songtheos (but smaller than those in Pattaya).

In Pattaya I use songtheo, 10 Baht.

No recent experience with Chiang Mai (planning to go next month).

There is a public bus from airport to Phuket Town; to Patong you would have to change there.

Taxi will be faster, but more expensive.
