Does anyone know if there is a bus from Pattaya to Chaiyaphum, direct please, or would I have to go to Bangers first ?
I know there are coaches to some northern destinations from the station on Sukhumvit, but don't know if Chaiyuphum
is one of them ..
Thanks for any info ....

I am unfamiliar with Pattaya's bus service. I took the bus from Bangkok's Mochit 2 / Northeastern Bus Terminal to Nong Bua Daeng last December. It was a 6 hour trip. We stayed at Apinya Resort just outside of Nong Bua Daeng. Visited BF's family for a couple of days. Really pretty country out in the middle of nowhere. Afterwards we took a cab to Nong Khai which was another 4 hour trip. I think I am off the hook this year, but suspect we will be back there again next year. Why are you planning on visiting Chaiyaphum? I would be interested in any information you have on visiting the area.

Chaiyaphum is not really one of the major destination provinces, but don't let that stop you ... large parts of that province are classically rural, and quite beautiful.
Having said that, I've never been there by bus, but I doubt there would be a specific bus straight to Chaiyaphum (could easily be wrong on that, but rest assured someone will tell me :) ).

Probably your best bet would be an Express/VIP bus from Pattaya to Khorat, then change there for the bus to Chaiyaphum.

Sorry Halfhansum, but I canтАЩt help you with bus timetable information concerning the journey from Pattaya to Chaiyaphum. But your topic has brought back some memories.

Before I started sharing the 6 hour drive to Chaiyaphum with my then boyfriend I too, like roguebear, travelled from the bus station at maw-chit in northern Bangkok, to Nong-Bua-Daeng. My ex-boyfriendтАЩs village was another 45-60 minute drive from the town. At the time the family house was no more than breeze block and corrugated iron with a hideous Thai toilet and тАШshowerтАЩ, so quite clearly we could not stay there.

We used, what I thought was the only hotel in the town, which was pretty rudimentary. But we only slept and showered there, spending most of the time at the family home and surrounding area (i.e. before I paid for a new, more liveable, family house with a western toilet and shower for me). :) I wish I had known about the Apinya Resort, roguebear. It certainly sounds more attractive than the very basic establishment we stayed at.

From memory I recall the town to be pretty dead, with the coolest place to hang out, being the local 7-Eleven, which had a few teenagers hanging about outside. The only time the town came to life was during the mor-lam festivals, when thousands of people appeared out of nowhere (well, the surrounding villages I suppose LOL!).

We did drive, or rather, I let my ex-bf drive, to the town of Chaiyaphum. It was a horrendous, snake like road full of hazards that had me gripping the armrest in horror as my ex-bf barely managed to negotiate some frightening bends. We took various family members and some friends from the village on a number of occasions. The first time we took pa and ma, we took them to the Tesco Lotus as they had never visited the store before. They appeared to regard it like one of the Seven Wonders of the World. They seemed totally mesmerised, but, unfortunately for my wallet, it didnтАЩt stop them adding to the shopping trolley like they were contestants in the TV programme Supermarket Sweep. :)

Apologies to Halfhansum for wandering off topic.

I would be surprised if there was no bus from Pattaya to Chayaphum.

The most complete overview of bus stations in Pattaya I know is here (but Chayaphum is not mentioned):

You didn't mention when you want to go, now you might be able to catch some Siamese Tulips:
