Hi,

Am looking to sponsor my friend through some English lessons in Bangkok. Can anyone recommend a good school? I'm looking for somewhere that will be flexible with course times - as he'll have to balance lessons with work.

So far I have obtained two quotes - each with very different prices, 8000 and 16000 for 40 hour courses. Can anyone with experience advise what I should be paying? I don't wanna get ripped off - but I don't wanna pay for some where thats a waste of time...

So much depends on the level of English your friend wishes to achieve. There are a lot of excellent courses from Conversation through to Business.

Assuming you do not want online courses then take a look at Bell International partner schools in Bangkok ( Google Bell International). My B/f did a couple of courses arranged through them late last year and they were done at the Assumption College. The school you use will depend on its location being convenient for your friend to travel to.

Avoid anything arranged via The British Council, I know a few people who have used their courses and have been very disappointed. The cost is going to depend on the level of course you choose but my b/f's cost aroung 8500 for 48 hours and his speaking and comprehension of English improved greatly

My friend went to Inglua in Silom Road. because of full time employment he did a mixture of weekend and night classes

He followed on from that course to a course for graduates wishing to attend further study overseas

I have met staff from there from time to time at Balcony and Dicks and in Montys.

They have impressed me as being very professional and well qualified.

Gents,

Thanks for the advice. For the moment, I'll be delighted if he can improve on his conversational English - as its not so good (though infinately better then my Thai!).

I had been looking at the British Council website - but shall certainly think twice about it. The Assumption colleges look good - but they might be out of the way? But will discuss with him - the costs sound reasonable. I shall also look that Inglua up - I couldn't find them on Google, I don't suppose anyone knows a website/can advise on costs?

Thanks again,

Steve

I've always been satisfied with RMIT (which is a local franchise of the Melbourne university of the same name) on the 5th Floor of Silom Complex (opposite the food court). It's not just for intending university students

As I understand it the RMIT franchise is part of Inglua. Certainly the chief instructor came from there and socialises with Inglua people.
