2 or 3 years ago I was drinking with friends at Maxi's. At some point an exquisitely dressed and made up "lady" in her/his 70-ies came to sit at Banana Bar. The staff treated her with visible respect - she had a drink, some food. I was mesmerized. (And no - I am totally into hunky men :)
Someone was trying to tell me more about her - she seems to be a fixture in the Soi - but I do not remember the details (had one too many, I am afraid).
Does anyone know who I am talking about? Who is she?
Thanks.

I think I do. She's probably the old ladyboy who performed in various bars; I once saw her in Dreamboys, I think.
Apparently she died a little while ago.

Was she the one who used to do a classical Thai dance during the intermissions at Tawan? I used to enjoy her entirely incongruous contributions...

You are referring to Grandma Nong, oldest performing lady-boy who died Feb 2012. I also remember her on my first visit in 2000. How could one ever forget?

Here is an article from bangkokbois blog "Death of a Diva; good reading with photos of Nong.

Oh yes, Francois. She's the one. Thank you for the picture and the link.
If there is an "after" I hope she's happy there.
