Kunming/Dongchuwan China

I'm headed to Kunming/Dongchuwan China and was wondering if any of you have ever been there and have any advice regarding the area.

Only just noticed this thread. I wonder if you made your trip? If so, do you have any advice for travellers? I have just booked a trip to Kunming, Dali, Lijiang and Shangri-La for early next year.
