New bar opened in old Topman,Sunee premises

Just a quick update. Last night saw a new bar and guesthouse opened in the old Topman premises, the main wall opposite Forest House has been knocked down to reveal a large open bar. Named Don Plaza Bar and has rooms available over the bar. Opening party last night with roast pig, balloons etc and very busy right through until late when we headed out of sunee, at 11.30pm there were only one or two available seats dotted around. The Double Shot Bar had actually closed for the night (didn't open at all) so they could attend the new bar opening.

Don't know about prices as we couldn't find a spare seat at the time we passed. Certainly brightens up the area on the corner again.

"Manforallseasons" will be astounded no doubt that Sunee has attracted another new bar and guesthouse, seems his continual proclamations of the demise of sunee will have to be 'on hold' for yet another year...that's about 10 years in a row now!

Yaya bar also sold to new owner and suggested opening on 20th of this month.

With 'for sale' sign on Krazy Dragon and one or two closures the ebb and flow of sunee continues. Apanda? bar and disco, middle eastern owned next to Topman/Don Plaza also for sale.

As regards YAYA Bar --Bas the waiter there is the new owner- well him and his BF.

We had thought of visiting the renewed Topman Bar, but have heard that a poster banned on all boards is promoting it. Rather give it a miss if he is anyway involved.

Story we have been told is that the removal of the wall makes the entrance to Sunee much more attractive

Yes me too, it was one of only two Sunee agogo bars I visited in the early days, the other being Nok-Nok just up the soi. There hasn't been all that much refurbishment inside so you can still see the Topman 'layout' for a bit of nostalgia.

might get me to have a look next time I am walking by.If you do sit in for a drink dear witchhunt, and you are not bothered about having 'top shelf' spirits be sure to make very clear you will accept the 'normal' priced Gin or Vodka, the bullshit waiter informed me "only have Absolute....ok ok?" vodka...after I started drinking it a drinks-menu appeared from a different waiter which showed 3 premium vods at Bt90 and Gilbeys at B50..for me Bt50 gin /vodka perfectly acceptable, how can *anyone tell the difference* with a mixer involved anyway?

When I brought it to the attention of said waiter that there was actually a choice, I got a completely unbothered shrug of shoulders and a bill for Bt90. Money clearly not the issue here, but an attitude totally lacking in customer satisfaction. I won't hold it against them however.

I sat inside at the bar and was offered an ashtray. Next to me was a No Smoking sign.
I pointed this out to the waiter and the Cashier/bartender, who I now noticed chain smoking, behind the bar.

Got a brief shrug and a muttered , Its OK, from them both.

Dirty, filthy, Ash Tray bar ....best avoided.

Yes looks like sale of Yaya Bar has fallen through --- Spoke to Bas (waiter) before I left Thailand and he said he and his BF were awaiting the Licence to reopen the Bar.

Not being here for many years you would have no clue of this bar or for that fact almost anything else happening here, perhaps this is what you would do, once again if you were here but to be understood in this bar you would have to speak rather good German. Your fascination with things current in Pattaya is amusing yet bizarre, my guess you are bored out of your mind in the U.K. why don't you join a local chat room to do with gardening?

It's called satire, and the Germans understand it very well - it's the less developed cultures which struggle with it.

My guess is that since you are going to be so petty about things - they won't care why you left. In fact, if they allow smoking that is because for every one of you there is one of 'them' and they probably spend more money, and are much more congenial than you do. Remember - in the end - when you decide to enter a bar, you do so realizing you are entire the owners 'second home'. If you don't like the owner, or his/her policies, why go there? They don't need or want customers that are going to make their lives miserable, so they will probably be happy to see you go. So, instead of complaining, just go to one of the many bars that do not have so much smoking and allow the rest of us to read a message board that doesn't have so much whining. Just because we are all 'gay' does not mean we have to be so bitchy about everything. Be a man - if you don't like it, just go somewhere else.

The smoking tobacco in bars issue always stirs up the forum and usually degenerates
into personal slurs. The other major irritants are the loud music, hideous pushy mamasans,
drink/off price increases , and quantity/quality of the boys.
When posters "bitch" about the irritants, it serves as a warning to those who object and
a lure for those who like cigarette smoke, loud music, etal. It's a service and helpful.

The whiners are the ones who complain about the "alerts" .
Some of us will put up with the irritants if the boys are hot enough like at XBoys in Pattaya.

No, the last message I sent you was about a similar complaint you had with the Japan, Beijing and Shanghai thread which was also moved over to the Global forum.

For as long as I've posted to this board, there has always been a "shadow topic" left behind when a topic is moved from one forum to another.

If you click on the shadow topic, for example the "Scotland Discussion" topic you see in the Gay Thailand forum...it will take you out of the Gay Thailand forum to the Open Discussion forum, where the topic really is.

The shadow topics eventually vanish...but they are there to serve as markers, to show where topics are moved to...when and if they are moved.

As you can see, we've taken this topic (New bar opened in old Topman, Sunee premises) off the tracks again and so I may split this side discussion off and move it to the Board Business.

Currently Qantas flight crew are under the impression is that the SYD/BKK flight has only a few months left. The big issue as with BA is staff benefits,pilots,cabin crew,ground staff front of house and on the tarmac and the ten thousand plus in support roles.The age of cabin crews from being the handsome young men of 40 years ago, has the same boys still working flatly refusing any retrenchment or early retirements.

The introduction of Jetstar was to phase out these too old to be of much value staff, but it has taken too long.

Etihad, British Airways and (locally) Ryan Air are doing ok so far under similiar management or so my west-to-east bound sexpats tell me.

It was suggested that the Colonial sale to the other partner, might still be going on. The comment made was maybe one of the two partners might sell and go in with the Don Plaza.

I thought that would be unlikely but it has been suggested by several people lately.

The former Topman/Cocktail Boys/Stardust has opened as a beer bar and apartments above. Now run by the former owners of the Don Plaza Hotel, itтАЩs called the New Don Plaza Bar and Guesthouse. They have knocked out the side wall and opened the bar to the soi.
