Why do I go back??

I am now beginning to think of my return to Thailand. I leave in October and will spend 3 or 4 weeks in the land of smiles. My plan is to go to Bangkok, Pattaya, Phuket and Chiang Mai and if I am lucky I will visit Singapore. As I think about my trip, I began to ask myself why am I returning to Chiang Mai? Sure I can enjoy seeing artisans at work but not to the point of paying a few thousand bath to see it. I enjoy the gogo bars but they are not enough of a draw to bring me back to Chiang Mai.... Why do I take the time to go to Chiang Mai?

You can't help it! Most of us understand quite well. However, why on earth make a special trip to Singapore? OK, as a visa run kind of thing, but you are not statying long enough to need it. If you want some variety, how about Hanoi, Bali, Luang Prabang, or Siam Reap? For gay fun, KL is even better.

I understand other places might be better, but I just have not found it yet. So, go to Pattaya and enjoy your time. A few days in Bangkok can be amusing as well but Pattaya is the place to be at least IMHO.

If you've seen & done all there is, why go there unless you love Chiang Mai. If it's just for a change of scenery try a town you've not been (Sukothai is worth a look.), otherwise; stay longer in the place you like best--Maybe just move to a hotel in a different part of town or hole up (No pun intended) at Babs for a few extra days--But don't forgot last time when you went Hungry Hannah!... Till you couldn't walk--And told everyone you sprained you ankle.

I've given both types of holidays a try and right now will settle for a hybrid between the two.

I traveled extensively during one holiday in April 2005 and enjoyed it, although found myself missing the excitement (cock) back in Pattaya. I had a purpose though, as I was giving a stab at filming a little documentary on Thai Culture and had to leave the exhilaration (more cocks) of Pattaya to do it. I guess I spent approximately 80% of my holiday traveling around northern Thailand and 20% in PTY. I found myself getting frustrated, especially during the times when I was baking my ass off in the sweltering heat trying to capture a shot of fuc*king money hanging from a tree, when I could have been back in PTY holding a cold Margarita (or a cute strangers cock) in my hand.

My last holiday seemed to work perfect...I just reversed the time percentages. I spent 20% of my time traveling; just a short trip to Phuket (never again) and a week long trip up to the Golden Triangle. These little side trips seemed to add more substance to my holiday...well, Changrai was great, but Phuket really sucks as far as I'm concerned. My appetite for fun and entertainment (meaning, Thai boy butt)s) can't be satisfied anywhere else in the world as well as Pattaya - so why fu*k it up?

I'll be there as well in October...enjoying my fried eggs and bacon with Monty and Lek...splish-splashing in the pool or cruising the open markets in the early afternoons, listening to the sounds of Steely Dan in the later afternoons while that beautiful (not handsome mind you) boy finishes his shower and walks slowly towards me, and waking up as I brush against his smooth naked body, only to realize that it's 7:00 PM (1900 hrs for you Euro guys - and for you BBB, the little hands on the 7 and the big hands on the 12)...and I have to get out of bed so I can get showered and dressed for a night of action.

So, I say to myself...Self, what do you prefer doing after you've worked your ass off saving every penny, sat with a numb ass on that fuc*king airplane for 24 hours, and then rode in a taxi 2 1/2 more hours, only to find the stench of pollution, vision of people eating raw fish that's dangling in the open air getting peppered by hungry flies, and that traffic...people who drive like they enjoy getting injured...WHY,...because it's Pattaya.

I've crossed C/Mai off my list long ago, chiefly for the reasons Buck mentions.

However my guy desperately wanted to see the place, so we did a few days there recently. My pleasure was to observe his devotion at the temple on the hill (housing a hair from the Budda), his joy at seeing the Pandas (including an attempted mating) and seeing him shiver in the cool climate.

BTW, the "free city map" is printed upside down, but once you've worked that out it's not hard to negotiate.
