Wondering whether any folks here have had tooth implants done while in Thailand.
I had some (minor) pain problems with a few teeth (bottom left) starting sometime around last October. As usual I ignored it assuming it would go away . . . but it didn't and I ended up in the Bangkok-Hua Hin Hospital for a consultation and some x-rays. After seeing two specialists here plus one in Bangkok it's become obvious that one tooth has to get ripped out of my mouth and, after healing, the hole will be given the implant treatment (i.e. screw-&-bolt).

Mr Suphot has had one these done 2 years ago and it has never given him any trouble, but I would like to read some additional impressions of the procedure from anyone who has had the implant(s) procedure here in Thailand.

Thanks ("Despise Dental Work / Hate Pain / Am Baby / Not Amused")

No problems with implant.
It's a long drawn out procedure. After extraction, months for gum to heal, then after implant
put in, more months for it to mesh with bone and finally the cap. I would do it again and was
pleased with the result. Much more expensive in the West..

Twenty five years ago I had all my molars crowned as I was a tooth grinder. However, given time crowns can crack, and your first clue is the tooth disappears one day. I have had three implants put in in Thailand, at three different places over the last eight years. There are implants now that can be implanted in less then six months, but with age it is best to wait the full period. Once they are in they behave just like your own teeth. Cost vary greatly, best to shop around but plan to spend at least 30,000 baht up to 60,000.

Been there and done that about 5 years ago through a bunch of female dentists on Nth Pattaya Rd and at a time when I thought that all services in Thailand are equal in quality to home but cheaper in price.
No problems so far with my implant, my bridge nor my cappings. But seeing the long term result of all other kinds of work here any day now I'm expecting all my mouth furniture to greet me on my pillow- don chow.-in the morning. My advice to you is the same as to my straight and gay friends on the eve of their (ubiquitous) weddings DON'T DO IT.

Partner had three done at BNH, over the course of six months, about six years ago. Cost about 120K Baht, and we're pleased with the results.

I had three done in London about ten years ago cost 400,000 Baht, and I'm happy with the results.....but much poorer!

BNH on Convent Road in Bangkok is my top choice for dental work and by now they know me well. My planned implant will cost about 70k. Would be 20k less at some independent clinics but I wouldn't dare. Too much at stake in my case.

Still, there are 4 or 5 office visits required so if I lived in Hua Hin I'd probably have it done at Bangkok-Hua Hin Hospital.

Have had 3 done in Pattaya . No pain and perfect results. It is one of the few Dental things not much less expensive then the USA.

But I have a fabulous dentist in Pattaya and he has an excellent implant specialist on his staff. Would not hesitate to do it again.

Interesting info, but I don't know why you go to all that trouble and expense.

Once I've discreetly spat my dentures into my hanky and surreptitiously whisked it into my jacket pocket, the boys say the resultant BJ is terrific.

Friend got a single inplant in South Pattaya Rd, 3/4 years ago, and has since returned for more work.

As result of his report 5 staff members have already have had the dental services and another is coming in March. The dentist that he used qualified in the US, and I believe there others with similar backgrounds.

He found that with all expenses and airfares . the costs were still far lower than what he would have paid at home. I think last time he had the tooth removed, returned home and came back 5 weeks later.

No pain at all .

Thanks guys, for the reflections on implants! At least the horror stories are mostly non existent.

The extraction happened yesterday, a dramatic affair with two nurses holding my head down and the dentist atop my chest trying to yard that double-rooted puppy out of my head: quite the physical affair. The anaesthetic worked perfectly, but there was quite a lot of rather disconcerting cracking noises going on ... apparently my tooth being torn apart just before the Big Pull.
Next some healing ... then a few months later apparently they take a jackhammer and mine down about three inches into my jaw bone to insert a screw peg the size of a telephone pole. Nice.
