Many of the boys have asked to go home and be with their families for the upcoming New Year. As a result, we have decided to close the club for New Years Eve, and New Years Day. Typically there are many other clubs in Pattaya who will be open for the holiday. Happy New Year from all the boys and staff at The Krazy Dragon. We look forward to seeing you soon.

I guess there's a lot you don't know about Thai families or Thailand.

I know quite many Thais who have to work over New Year, far away from their families, and it doesn't seem that big of a deal compared to, let's say, missing Songkran or one of the important religious festivals or temple fairs back home.

Which almost makes me feel tempted to rant a bit, and why not, since it's almost Christmas: "Only in Thailand" can you find a bar that closes for two days during what's supposed to be peak season, just because the employees prefer to party with their families. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, but consideration for potential customers never seems to be very high on the list of priorities. ;)

Great to hear of a bar that takes into consideration the boys feelings and needs.
Hope they have a great time with their families and a wonderful holiday.

Yes Dragonmaster, there is a lot i dont know about Thai's, but one thing i do know is that they are all liars, and have just given you a cock and bull story about visiting their families! they just wanted a few days off to party! =))

On the basis of a couple of visits in the past fortnight, it appears that the modus operandi now is much as under the old regime, with the boys still literally jumping from table top to table top, except that (a) they now longer crouch down to facilitate a customer's grope and to collect the consequent tip, (b) they wear underwear that prevents the visual assessments that were previously possible.

Yes I agree with newyorkgeorge. But more than that it really does show how clueless the OP is with running a bar that he allows his staff to get the place closed for what is probably the most important night out of the year. Can it be imaged if all such establishments adopted the same ludicrous policy?
Unbelievable!

I applaud Dragonmaster for closing his bars to let the boys go back to their family or wherever they want. (I assume those who still want to work can go another bar for a few days.)

Opening the bar with reduced number of staff is a loss for all sides: the boys don't get offed, customers complain that there only few boys, the owner doesn't make a profit. And if you off a boy who has other things in mind, it won't be a good time.

Is Christmas and New Year a busy day in bars or do potential customers have other things in mind than going to a bar? I don't know, I have never been to gogo or host bars on these days.

That's a kind gesture. If it were my bar I would worry that people may come to think of my bar as one that is always closed on the holidays and make plans that do not include my closed bar.

I have a friend in Philadelphia that often puts together special events in bars on their closed nights or he will sometimes lease the place for a night keeping on the management and sometimes even the bar staff. He may have an old 80's singer or group appear along with a gay porn actor who may perform a strip show. He adapts the party to surroundings.

I wonder if some bar owners would be willing to lease out their bar for just one night or a holiday weekend?

Thanks for those of you who have supported the decision to give the boys a couple of days off.

NYG - Yes it's true they do want to spend a couple of days out partying, but with their families and friends, after all why do YOU come to Thailand. Perhaps you wanted to visit the temples and learn to be a monk. I'd like to know where you gained this great wisdom that all Thai boys are liars. Perhaps it is when they call you a sexy man and you know the truth.

Zombie - When you decide to put your money where your mouth is and invest in a bar here and run it, perhaps you will have a clue. I see these guys every day and it's like having an extended family along with all the drama that goes with it. I am not clueless as you suggest, you are the one who is clueless here.

Christian makes some very good points about reduced staff, no off's and customers complaining. I don't think the boys who are not going home are really interested in working another bar, they'd rather have the time off to party locally with their friends and take me along to buy the whiskey where farangs don't often go. Most of the bars are pretty quiet after midnight when the fireworks and shows wind down.

Bucky, great idea and we do cater to private parties for one night events. Nobody has asked for it though. This is the first time we've closed for these two days and is one of the few times including Songkran and government mandated days that we close.

There are many bars that will be open over these two days, and closing mine is not going to affect anybody's quest to find a dick, so for you critics, get over it and enjoy the holiday.

I fully support the decision to close KD.
Last time I was there was with a group of friends and we were annoyed with the poor service. Some of the drinks were without doubt watered down. The selection of boys was poor ranging from quite ugly to in- need of- urgent- medical -attention. The place seemed to lack management and direction , and full of bored and dis-interested staff.
So do please shut the bar for the new year and hopefully make sure it is not re-opened again.

Whilst it is of course DMs right to open and close as he wishes ( or as his staff perhaps dictate to him one way or the other) and he's right in saying that they will no doubt be many other bars open, it does raise the general point that if all establishments took this course of action then after them all complaining about poor low seasons and looking forward to high season etc and them then promoting Pattaya as a good go to destination in general that for farang to then arrive and them THEN to announce "oh and we're closing over the busiest holiday few days" does seem a bit daft and not conducive to encouraging repeat business perhaps.

I should add that I'm not talking about DM or Crazy Dragon in particular here but more so bars "in general", as has been pointed out one bar doesn't make a difference but if a trend and culture of closings develops then all of a sudden it just might matter to people. In the west city centre management boards which are cross groups of traders and councils etc realised this quite a while ago and now all city opening hours / holidays etc are pre planned and instigated ( and advertised) enmass to avoid it's happening.

But of course TIT so the same wouldn't apply but the logic is sound.

Notwithstanding NIrish's valid comments, I'd suggest looking at it another way - it's a great bonus of being in Thailand that you'll find the vast majority of bars are open on Jan 1st at all.

So, eat, drink, shag, and be merry - the insignificant inconvenience of KD being closed for 2 days is surely just that!

Are Dec 31st and Jan 1st the busiest days in a gogo bar? This has been claimed a few times in this thread, does someone have numbers?

what! trying to sell for 60 grand USA?!
not worth 60 thousand PP peso's.
the seller must believe that there are plenty of mugs out there willing to lose their shirts.
he may be right but the word around town is that the owner of Krazy Dragon could not to coin a phrase 'organize a piss up in a brewery'.
such a mug to buy the place initially and now because he is losing money arse over fist he is desperate to sell.
one born every minute.

I always thought this place had potential but I guess the busy days are over.
Yes 60k does seem a lot but take into account the furnishings and lighting etc.

I'm not sure that all of the furnishings are an asset. I have never known such uncomfortable seating in any other bar. The depth (from front to back) of the couches is so great that you no-one I know finds it comfortable - or even possible - to sit on them with any adequate back support.

When I see the words arse and fist and bar owner in a thread I get this really horrible mental picture.

It seems sad and unfair that what starts out as an information announcement deteriorates into a slagfest of the business. I don't know it, but find it hard to believe that it is deserving of such comments, compared to so many others that would never even take the trouble to inform us of their temporary closure.

I have to agree with BTI - there is clearly an agenda against KD by certain posters IMHO

George tries hard but wearing a full military/police uniform with mace etc. hardly appealing to customers unless they have
a fetish. To be fair, George bought a failing boy bar that was already a dim imitation of better days and has tried to
revive it.
I believe he misses the boat, hiring boys he liked (think Eros boys) and not the more manly boys KD was known for.
I loved KD, but it was dead for a long time before George and at least he tried.

Reading about these bars and their owners, I cannot help but think it's more like a pet project or hobby for them, instead of a real money-making business. If that's how you run your business, you usually lose money and won't have many happy customers (because they tend to be the least of your concerns), no big surprise there. Nothing wrong with that, if you've got the money to spare and/or find another 'businessman' who'll take the bar off your hands after you've burned through enough.

From this point of view, both stories combined (first, "Closed for New Year because my staff asked me to", and second, "Up for sale for a ridiculously high price") make perfect sense, even to the most casual observer of the Pattaya madhouse such as myself.

I beg to differ. I am happily married to a Thai guy that has more honesty in him than you could ever hope for evidently. The way you talk, it is no wonder that the Thai boys that you are affiliated with lie to you, but please do not go around assuming that the rest of have the same experiences. Do some Thai boys lie? Of course they do. Do you lie? Of course you do - as you just did so. As for Crazy Dragon - good on him for giving his staff a few days off. His prerogative - not yours. If you want to dictate when a bar opens or closes - you are more than welcome to go out and buy one. Please keep your own bitterness about how you are treated (most likely because you treat other poorly) out of the forum. Show some respect.

Had no idea Thais celebrated new year at Dec 31.

I can just see those Thai familes decorating a christamas tree, and perhaps singing a nice (by nice I mean horrible) christmas tune, maybe Holy Night, Silent Night'!
