A good while ago we started a series of online articles about the history of Chiang Mai's gay bars (http://www.gayinchiangmai.com/News/tag/what1/) highlighting what had happened to a few of the places and personalities that have come and gone over the years. After a long interlude we've just finished part two: Whatever Happened toтАж. Part 2 - Down at the Night Bazaar (http://www.gayinchiangmai.com/News/2013/whatever-happened-part-2/) with some reminders of what gay Chiang Mai used to offer.

If you remember the good old days in Chiang Mai you'll probably find this an interesting piece of nostalgia. :)

I happened to be talking to "Madame" Nui :-) (ex owner of Friendship Bar I think) yesterday and I forwarded him that article and he was so chuffed to read it and said how it reminded him of the many good times he'd had over the year's in his bar in Chang Mai with many friends both Thai and Farang alike and he asked that I pass on his best wishes to anyone who knew him from those days. As the article states he is currently living and working in Italy and is in fine health and does pop back and forth to Thailand every now and then.

I've recently written a more general article about changes to the gay scene in Chiang Mai over the last ten years or so for Chiang Mai city News - Part of the City Life Magazine group (http://www.chiangmaicitynews.com/) Some posters here may find the conclusions a touch unpalatable but basically the price of progress in the acceptance of gay people means prostitution is now looked on with much greater disdain than it was ten years ago. As gay becomes mainstream the so called "gay scene" has to adapt and evolve in Thailand, just as it has in western countries.
