Changes in Bangkok Go Go Bars

I recently visited Bangkok for a week, and noticed significant changes in the go go bars in the Silom area.

(1) Some of the most attractive guys seem to be from Southeast Asia, especially Cambodia, Myanmar, and Vietnam. I offed a couple of very attractive guys from Cambodia. On the other hand, a couple of bar managers said that they did NOT employ guys from other parts of Southeast Asia.

(2) Many, if not most, of the customers in some bars such as Dreamboy and Jupiter seemed to be from China. (I have worked in Hong Kong and understand Mandarin and some Cantonese.) At least such was the case in late August and early September, and this was NOT a vacation period in China. Dreamboy, in fact, made announcements in Chinese, but NOT in English, as I recall.

(3) A significant number of the customers seem to be women, probably at least 15 percent. And some women were very active in offing the attractive guys. Most of the women customers were Asian, but included a few Europeans and Americans.

(4) Few of the customers seem to be Thai. Where are the Thai men and women going to off guys?? As I recall, ten years ago most of the customers were Thai.

(5) The prices for drinks and tips seem to have gone way up. Several managers at the Silom bars said that I should pay tips of 2,000 baht for short time. One Cambodian guy even angrily demanded 3,000 for an hour and a half. He was very handsome, and provided good service, so I paid the 3,000 to avoid a scene....

(6) The quality of Jupiter has gone way down. It used to be my favorite bar, but I found the shows boring and the guys not particularly handsome.

(4) Saranrom, Saphan Kwai bars, Inter Mustache, massage places?

(5) I know that the expected tip in Dreamboys is 2000 (some boys told me, I don't go to Dreamboys for that very reason). Elsewhere, 1500 is standard. They might try to make you believe that 2000 is expected ("if you are happy, you can tip 2000"). But my policy is not to discuss in advance, tip 1500 afterwards (well, is has been some months that I offed a boy from Soi Twilight). The 1500 was accepted without complaint, I even had two boys long time for 1500 (one from DJ station who works in X-Boys and one from Screwboys regular off) this year.

Cambodian boy demands 3000 for short time? Was that before (then I would have kicked him out) or after? I had a similar problem with a Vietnamese boy over a year ago, wanted 2000 for short time, had to kick him out with 1600 after unpleasant negotiations.

Managers and captains at Dreamboy told me that the minimum tip would be 2,000. [Several of these managers also requested tips from me, even though they had provided no service whatsoever.] A manager at Fresh Boys suggested that the tip should be at least 2,000 for short time, although it was "up to me."

The Cambodian guy demanded the tip of 3,000 after the service. Because the service was very good indeed, I did not make a fuss. Also, it was my first night back in Bangkok, and I was very tired after the long journey -- and the great sex.

I should note that when I brought the guy back to the hotel [which was very gay friendly], the security staff were reluctant to admit him. I smiled and sweet talked the staff who eventually allowed me to take the guy to the room. I had initially thought that the security staff had prejudice against Cambodians. but perhaps hotel guests had had problems with the particular guy in the past.

The Cambodian guy was strikingly good looking, and the service was so good that I went back to the same bar to look for him the next night, but he had already been offed 15 minutes after the bar had opened. Perhaps he can demand high prices because he is popular . Later, I decided not to try to off him anymore, because I disliked the angry outburst.

Do not really think Thai were the main customers that time ago-maybe you were not yet too familair with Thai/Asians. Hotmail/male (old Twilight) I think is about the last stronghold for Thai.
But by now Thai customers wanting some boyflesh go to the 50+ m2m massageshops in suburban BKK-you can get the whole works for less as the lowest fee quoted. Or order online. Sapan kwai has only 1 gogo-the rest of the very small nr is karaOK. Anyway, thanks for your report, which def. confirms what others have also hinted at. And yes-also in some sauna in BKK the Chinese are moving in by their multitude. Happily their list by now is so partial that many for among us sauna still remain.
NOte that Cambodians are either of Khmer (dark) or VNese descent-and VNese certainly are famous anywhere for their money-gauging tactics, not just in this type of bisnis.

I am very aware of Thai/Asian distinctions. I am of Eurasian background [my late mother was of Dutch-Indonesian-Chinese background; my father was Italian and Dutch], was born in Hong Kong, and have lived most of my life in several Asian countries. Perhaps I am wrong, but I seem to recall that the Silom go-go bars had more Thai customers in the past.

By raising the questions and issues, I did NOT intend to stereotype or to degrade any ethnic group. The very handsome Cambodian lad demanded a little extra for his excellent service. In retrospect, he probably deserved it. It seemed to be very popular.

NEVER ASK A MAMASAN WHAT THE EXPECTED TIP IS. That marks you down as "green". And of course they will inflate the figure. What do you expect?

Research prices in advance & project the kind of confident attitude like you go there every week.

BKK expectation is about 1500 short time. Pay that, if they make a scene, no problems, call hotel security and tell them to sod off.
If the guy is an absolute gem, why not pay more? But don't pay more just because you have a pushy boy, pay it because he deserves it.

I done understand the attaraction of buying an expensive glass of coke to watch guys in there underpants jiggle around on stage and then pay well over the odds to the "house" to pay to have sex with them when a few hours later you can find them for half the price on Grindr or Gayromeo when they failed to score a punter from the go-go bar.

And all form the comfort of your own room.

I'm very much attracted to this and after spending a large sum of money on a flight, I'm not going to sit in my hotel room to save a few hundred baht.

I only visited one go-go bar on my last holiday (a few times) and they are one of the reasons I enjoy going to Thailand. I can use GR or the phone apps to find guys here at home (I don't, but I could). So visiting a go-go bar for me is part of the whole Thailand experience.

i like going for a drink with me mates down the pub once or twice a week. i could sit indoors and drink cans from the offie, but unlike on here i like to be sociable :). its all about atmosphere.
my guess would be that someone who would rather sit indoor all day long looking at a computer screen rather than mixing with people is likely to be a miserable old fucker lacking social skils.

I agree with Joe. I prefer the bar approach and there are several reasons I go to the bars.

I try to keep a decent relationship with the staff. At the places I go, they are helpful.(yes, - some are not.)
I prefer to pick the guy in person and know what I am getting. (I am looking for well built guys only, so in person is important)
Sometimes I may just decide to look.
I may know other guys in the bar and going to the bar allows me to see and chat with them again and perhaps even set something up for later or next day.
I don't mind supporting the bars. They provide a service and I would like to see them around. It would not be the same without them.
Only using the internet or your phone to create a hookup seems very impersonal. Cheaper-for sure.

But I understand that others like electronic hookups and that is fine. I am old fashioned. :occasion5:

The guys what of answered my comments seem to think go-go bars are the only bars there are what about all the bars off Silom in Soi 4 and Soi 2 I done mind going there at all for socialism and guy spotting and reasonable prices with no off fee but I can pick up a go-go boy off my phone not my computer whoever wrote that is so last century.

why does one have to choose, I like both. Sure its cheaper to book over the web, but 2 out of three are late or dont show up or dont even look like the picture. Sure I can use the fact that they used an old photo or someome elses photo to my afvantage...but its still annoying.
Upside about a gogo bar, is I like the atmosphere, like having the boys paraded before me like products, waiting for me to choose...love it. Love it all.

Friday night I arrived in the Bangkok but it was difficult to tell that it was a weekend because there was not many people. I walked around to Sui twilight and not very many people there also,

I ended the night at telephone pub and met a local guy.

I went back to my room and when I took a shower I ended up meeting a guy on my floor.

Saturday I went to Hotmail Google bar, Pay 350 baht for a Singha beer. The show was not like last year And not very many guys to look at But I arrived late and had to watch the show so maybe that is why it wasn't so good. There was one very attractive guy there. He was attractive until he performed in the show in queened up a storm.

I left and went back to telephone pub to See if my friend returned. I shared his picture of beer and when the telephone closed we went across the street to a karaoke bar After that it was back to my room at Babylon alone Henman another Thai guy in the shower.

Sunday I did not go out I just met guys from grinder and they came to my room and later I went to the sauna and had fun with a few guys and then came back to my room early sleep.

It's Monday morning now so I leave for Chang Mai

(my emphasis) That would be after 1 am (2 am, 3 am, depending on bar and boy), a time at which I prefer to be asleep.

Currently, I go to bars for moneyboys and use gayromeo and grind for non-moneyboys (or to contact moneyboys after I first met them in real life).

Surprisingly, there was a lot of guys staying on my floor. I met a very hot guy from Pattaya who was staying at Babylon for the weekend. Most of the guys I saw on the floor were Asian and only one or two Caucasian guys.

Timberty, I am looking forward to it. Even if you do end up calling me a miserable old fucker hahaha :)
