View Full Version : Never say "Never"...Usually (Permissions)

I found the reason why it's difficult to add new permissions to users and/or groups- it's because a bunch of permissions for Registered Members are set to "never" instead of "no"- and of course we are all "Registered Members" first before we are also made administrators. "never" means that people in that group can not have that permission- Even if they ARE also in a group (like "Administrators) that normally allows that permission.

Really the only time "never" should be set for a group'permissions is when we have created that group specifically for the purpose of preventing it's members from having that permission. Example:

"Newly Registered Members" are also "Registered Members" but they can't post without approval so the permission for "can post without approval" for "Newly Registered Members" should be set to "never" to over-ride the "yes" set for that in "Registered Members".

....Otherwise "No" should be used. That means being in that group alone does not give them that permission but if they are also in a group (Administrators, Moderators for example) that has that permission set to "yes" then they do have that permission- even though they are still also "Registered Members".
