I'm wondering is some of you who moved to Thailand regret your decision after experiencing "Gay Christmas" day after day, after day, after day, after day. So much so that nothing is as it once was for you.

As a short time visitor to Thailand, visiting the gay beach, a cute guy in a speedo walks up and stands so close that he is rubbing his bulging crotch on your leg as he introduces himself asking if you are alone and if he can join you.... A visitor would jump at the the opportunity the cute guy presented. The "Bored with Thailand" guy would move his leg away from the guys crotch and wave him away.

As a visitor, I go in a bar and marvel at the gravity-defying sex show or the ribbon show where the guy pulls a mile of impeccably clean neon ribbon out of his ass while performing a dance routine. The "Bored with Thailand" guy would hardly give any of that a glance would not be impressed if the guy pulled a hidden and lit sparkler from his ass, swallowed it and pulled it out again... still lit and sparkling.

As a visitor, I want to enjoy the tasty treats I can't get at home. The "Bored with Thailand" guy is sick of all that garbage and is trying to recapture the flavors of home.

As a visitor, I want to Party and have fun till I'm wheels up on the plane headed home. The "Bored with Thailand" is suspicious of the guys he meets outside of a gogo bar, is tired of the loud music, smoking and visitors throwing around their money and spoiling the working boys.

After reading about others who just returned from Thailand, I am becoming excited about my coming trip with memories returning to me from my previous trip. In the past, I kept my distance from the sleaze, but this trip I plan to visit it. I won't participate but I don't mind watching a live porn movie played out in front of me.

I'm sure the guys who are "Bored with Thailand" would just say "Meh..." to the sleaze going on. :angel11:

It will shortly be three years that I have been living here and I'm certainly not bored with Thailand. Quite the opposite in fact. I work full-time doing a job I really like and my colleagues are a genuinely great group of people, i.e., both Thais and foreigners. Work keeps me very busy five days of the week and I get to travel locally and regionally every now and then for meetings and such. I have also forged some great friendships that bring diversity to my life in that they are straight couples and singles and some who are gay.

I also live away from the downtown area of Pattaya in a quiet and safe neighbourhood that is close enough when I need to go there but far enough to live like an average Joe and not a tourist. This keeps my pocket healthy, my ego in check, and makes evenings after work relaxing.

The gay bars and clubs are not the centre of my universe here but rather it is work and being with friends in their homes, at special events, weekend trips etc. I do sometimes visit Boyz Town and go to the late night gay clubs with friends and always have a blast. And the beach is a place I can never get tired of as it is where I go to relax, read, and shoot the breeze. Like everything and everywhere there are moments you are bored but it is not as drastic as bored of Thailand.

I also do go back home once a year during my one month holiday in April/May (the hottest time of the year here) and visit other nearby countries as well. It is still all exciting to me and I have never regretted making the decision to pack up and move here. Pattaya was not my first choice as a place to live in Thailand but it is where the job offer came from and overall the city has been good to me. I do see though how my friends who have children struggle with raising them in some sort of a safe, disciplined and value-centred environment that is important to children. This is a city built on adult entertainment and too often kids get caught up in it and get hurt. Beyond those concerns, though, Pattaya certainly has it charm and advantages (many fit and fine lads everywhere) and I'm still enjoying and learning new things each day.

Hope your upcoming trip will be another fantastic one for you! And I look forward to reading your reports.

No. No regrets.
Your first faulty premise is that if you move to a country you love, you will soon become bored with it.
Absolutely the opposite. I find people who get bored easily are boring people.
Your second faulty premise is that the only reason a gay man would move to Thailand is for sleaze
and the sex trade scene. Again, false.

Sadly people these days seem to think that life is for children and everywhere must be made a child-safe environment.

I have never heard any of my friends who have children in Pattaya express any problems with adult entertainment. I have heard them express genuine concern about those adults who want to abuse children for their personal entertainment and the need to protect them from that harsh reality. One would believe that constitutes good preparation for life no matter where you are in the world.

You mean that they chose to live in their own country, yes. Millions of Thais do so every day. Obviously a shocking revelation to you though.

The Thais themselves chose to turn their own country in general and Pattaya in particular into Asia's brothel starting in the Vietnam War period with R&R for US soldiers. Does Buddhism not have some sense of "what goes around comes around"?

A rather strange OP.

What makes you think we are all bored???????

Can you judge everybody or just imagining how you would be if you stayed here full time.

For what it is worth, I have not regretted one minute of my decision to live here. The real purpose of your post is rather more intriguing than what it purports to be about.

simplesoul...I can see buckies viewpoint....most European Pattaya residents do come across as very ..very jaded, as in done..seen it...fucked it....even got a T-shirt....way!!!
Even the straight ones have this attitude.....
I ceertainly could not see myself living in Thailand....visiting for a couple of months...YES....but not longer.

No I would never live there so I would never get the feeling the OP describes.

Bored? Not at all. Spoiled for choice. Life is not perfect, but I like it here better than in Europe.

The key seems to be work or other activity to keep you busy during day. If I had nothing else to do than sitting in a bar and drinking beer day for day, I would be bored as well.

but I like it here better than in Europe.

And I think THAT is all that matters and as long as that continues to be the case then it answers the question as to where should one by living if they have a choice. Of course no matter WHERE you live in ANY city you're going to get bored, lonely, angry and frustrated at the locals and their customs at some point and for some short periods but just as long as that one main basic rule is still applied and Thailand ( or wherever) still passes that simple test then the rest is easy to put up with and adjust to Im guessing.
