... is actually quite good as a compendium of threads and posts which sometimes rise to the heights of a weirdly compelling exercise in flameology. It appears that the Admin has tossed many posts in there which really cannot be called 'flames' at all, but simply 'edgy' ... many entertainingly so. How can one not drool-before-reading when confronted by a thread entitled "What a bunch of arseholes ...." ( by Gone Fishing: what-bunch-arseholes-t17871.html (http://www.sawatdee-gay-thailand.com/forum/what-bunch-arseholes-t17871.html) )?
There were a lot of really excellent, and funny, writers on Sawatdee back then: many not here anymore ('Gone Fishing' for instance, seems to have Gone Missing), many possibly changed handles, at least a few have kicked the bucket (see the 4-pager: "Is Homi Alive?" homi-alive-t17237.html (http://www.sawatdee-gay-thailand.com/forum/homi-alive-t17237.html) )
I never realized how many long term members flew this coop during the bloody awful Neal Interregnum ... and that's being kind indeed to Cromwell.

Anyway, some fairly good laff-my-ass-off reads on a rainy morning here in Canada with only about 60 days before arriving back in the humid and monsoony arms of Thailand.

I never realized how many long term members flew this coop during the bloody awful Neal Interregnum ...
Ah, come on... I know Neal was an arsehole, but to be fair, most of these members you long for disappeared during the end of Spike's ownership (the time when almost anything was allowed and he didn't care what happened to the board) or before. Most of the members who fled during Neal's ownership, have ended up coming back the moment he left. So you've lost nothing!

...................you can easily see that there is an incredible amount of blood on the floor from the short time Neal tried to run this board into the ground. The number of members who were deleted, deleted with all their posts, of members who quit during that time, who ran away, who stopped posting or who also stopped reading. Names like TrongpaiExpat, Thai Dyed and my favorite Koh Samui LuvтАжto name a few.

Your comments of Spike must be based on what Neal told you and for some bizarre reason Beachlover you have subscribed to this lie machine as though you get your news from the National Enquirer.

I am very hopeful that the membership from days gone by will continue to drift back to Sawatdee now that they know it is safe to come back and that we are back to having fun here again.

Hmmm... let's just agree that some members left during Spike's reign and some left during Neal's reign.

1. I had forgotten about some of the ones you mentioned. Though I'm pretty sure TrongpaiExpat left during Spike's reign and long before Neal ever came along.

2. I think most of the members who left during Neal's reign have returned... maybe there are a few like Thai Dyed who didn't. Certainly the most regular of posters did return, Scottish, NIrish, A447 etc.

3. No, I'm not going off what Neal has told me at all. And to be honest, a lot of what he posts about the membership or level of activity here now is a bit crazy, warped and vindictive without substance so I ignore it. If it gives him pleasure to have a rant, then let him have a rant. He really ain't going to listen to anyone telling him he's wrong! This site is fairly busy again and that's all that really matters.

4. It's purely my own recollection of events. I don't have anything against Spike, nor do I have any reason to. The board seemed to flourish under most of his ownership. It was only in the last year or two of his ownership that it really went off the rails (maybe you don't remember or weren't around). Moderation was non-existent and the hosting bill was often neglected leaving the board to go down for days at a time. Spike would complain he was unemployed and didn't have the funds to pay it. There was one time when he left it offline for a few weeks and most thought it was gone for good. When it finally came back online, I think Scottish and I were the only two members who posted anything at first. It took a while for the rest of the regular members to return and a long time before the board became busy again.

Quite wrong. Trongpai's last post on Sawatdee was Sat 12 May, 2012, some seven or eight months after Neal took over. Being and easy-going guy, it took him that long to commence vomiting.

Couldn't agree that. Never heard of anyone leaving because of ES/jinks' moderation. Certainly there was bitching about jinks or about ES not paying the rental but don't recall anyone leaving because of that. The migration of posters happened during and because of the vile duplicitous dickheads's tenure. Must get off the fence on this issue sometime!
