Day Time Bars

I love day time bars, simply because I tend not to stay up at night. While relatively still a newcomer to Thailand, I've discovered 2 so far. There is Golden Cock off Suriwong in Bangkok. However, my favorite is Bamboo Bar on Dongtan Beach in Pattaya, where you can sit with one of their charming hosts before lunch. This is really a remarkable place.

Are there any other bars open during the day that anyone knows about and recommends?

The Golden Cock - really !?? Are we calling it a proper bar now ?? God I must have missed something the last few times I nipped in to chat to the guy who works there - god it's abysmal, I cant think of much worse places to spend a sunny afternoon perhaps :-( Do you mean gay type bars or just ordinary bars as there are of course a load of nice bars open not a million miles away from the Golden Cock in the Silom area generally such as the Irish bars etc. ( where being an Irish bar you'll always find handsome men of course as Ireland is well known for only having handsome men come from it's shores :-)) lol

Yes, I mean gay bars (host bars, beer bars, whatever). GC was not my cup of tea either, but I mentioned it since it is open in the afternoon.

as for those types of bars-and in BKK, I am afraid thats it. GC has done so since about when it started-nearly 25 yrs. ago. Even half price drinks before 18/19.00. Other more general bars/restrts, aiming the gay ''crowds'' in BKK are in soi 4- and like Dicks in soi Hotmail-open in afternoon, but they do not have staff for rent-though freelancers may have found a niche-market in them. Oh- just around the corner from GC is still SuperA (or whatever they call it now-similar) and they lately said to be ''open 24 hrs'', which likely means if someone turns up they chase off all sleeping boys from the sofa and someone wipes the sleep out of his eyes and then opens the bar. NI-boy can probably write even meaner reviews on that bar as for GC.
Alternatives are sauna's, massageshops (those with only male staff and offering more as just nouat). Babylon is as soon as it opens crowded with many also just going out socialising.

My routine in BKK for day-time bars would be Dick's to get the day off to a good start in pleasant surroundings.

Mid/Late aftenoon might see me head over to Super A for a soupcon of sleaze.

Golden Cock is really the last resort for me - it's 50/50 with Super A in terms of general squalor but at least there are often a couple of attractive boys in Super A - but nothing at all which appeals to me in GC.

Super A has moved to ground floor location. When I asked why, the mamassan told me that 'cutamer' too ole now to go 'apstar'. Being a long time regular I thanked herhim for the ego boost.
Re Bamboo Bar being "remarkable" reminds me once again that there's no accounting for taste. I've been there perhaps half a dozen times and if I never go again it will be too soon- boring place with bored staff.
There's a niche in the market here somewhere: we all need a niche to fill in the afternoons here in Pattaya.

If you are in Pattaya and into ladyboys you can try Famous Bar in Soi VC, opens around 2 or 3PM. If you organize the telephone number of the mamasan they are open 24 hours for you.
Sometimes they have an all inklusive afternoon special, Ladyboy tip+OFF fee+room upstairs for 699 Baht.

I occasionally visit the bamboo Bar, usually after a couple of hours in the afternoon on the beach. The experience has been variable. Sometimes I've gone in, obtained a drink, but then ignored by the staff who cluster around the bar chatting or playing with their phones. On other days I've enjoyed the company of an attractive boy who I've offed and taken to Samsuk Sauna or my room.
I don't think ladyboy bars would be an option for the majority of gay men. Ladyboys with breasts are a turn off for me.

I had never gone into bamboo until this year mostly because the boys who were doing the"Hello Welcome" out front. were usually unappealing to me.
In my current opinion Bamboo bar is in fact a pleasant interlude to the boredom of day-time Pattaya and it will probably become a regular day time haunt; for this punter anyway.
In 2011 as I walked past one afternoon I heard my name called and after stopping in surprise I was quickly enveloped in a bear hug by a boy I had met in 2011 in Chiang Mai. I had plans for that night and didn't get to repeat my previous up-country experience with him. After confirming his number hadn't changed and giving him my new number I jumped a baht bus and intended to call him next day but didn't get around to it for 3 days at which time he had returned to Chiang Mai.
But back to Bamboo bar as to the virtues or not of it being a good/reasonable day time bar
This year I was walking past and asked one of the "front" boys whether my friend had returned to the bar, he had and was working that day. He was in the midst of an off discussion with another farang, so my loss,that day anyway . I decided to hang around after he left and was quickly joined by 2 other rather nice boys and my 2pm - 6pm post beach afternoon passed pleasantly There was quite a choice of boys in the bar, more so than in a number of Sunee bars at night (about 8- 10, a guesstimate as I didn't actually count them) I didn't off at that time because I had dinner plans and didn't want to drag the poor bugger around all night (would be boring for him I suspect) Also mid-afternoon is not a good time for me as I usually dont plan my evenings post dinner until I see where the mood takes me. I'm also a once-a day is enough type so an arvo shag could've made for a boring night for me, like a kid in a candy store with no money to buy. Looking but not touching.
In conclusion, definitely give Bamboo a look in the afternoon some time.

This is a metaphor-free posting. I did very much enjoy the company of one of Bamboo Bar's hosts several late mornings and early afternoons.
