The GB exchange rate today looks tough, if you are buying a 200Baht drink in a bar it is costing you 4.54 Pounds ,now that is expencive for a small bottle beer.
we are heading out in a couple weeks time for 3 weeks ,lets hope things improve slightley , or will have to think twice at paying those prices.

You could always drink in nicer real places, where a bottle of beer cost between 40-70 baht. :tongue3:

Try doing it on AU$. We're on 30B/$1 now. So the same drink is nearly $7 about 4.7 GBP. I dont drink alcohol so I'm paying that for soft drink if I go to the go-gos etc.

You could always drink less :jok:

When I was in pattaya in jan the highest aud I got was 31baht.
Now it's just above 29baht.
Save a little bit more for the next trip is my only suggestion!

it is now more expensive to visit thailand than it is to visit europe, the baht has gone up like crazy for the last 5 months.
my 10,000 baht which cost me ┬г200 in october last year is now going to cost ┬г230 .. so more than 10% more in just a few months.
they need to do something, and soon or else people will stop going, and once that happens there will be no need to worry about boys in bars, as there will be no tourist there to off them.

Wow, that is a very definitive and bold statement timmberty, if you are speaking about the actual airfare you are correct, but that has always been the case.

If you are talking about the normal services and items available in both, I only have the UK as a detailed comparison for a European country vs Thailand.

So maybe you can explain your bold statement of non-fact with regards to the following standard items for a visitor. All normal stuff and services many westerners would use in Thailand.

Diesel UK ┬г1.40 litre Thailand 0.65p that's about half the price. (Feb 2013)
Car rental UK ┬г30 per day at least: Thailand Phuket Feb 2013 Bt800/┬г17.
Local meal. (Being generous) UK ┬г5 Thailand Kao Man Gai Bt45/┬г1
Local Meal reasonable 3 course western meal- UK ┬г15+ Thailand Bt300/┬г7-ish
Hotel comfortable room with ensuite, aircon, TV etc.. UK Budget chain ┬г50 Thailand Bt1000/┬г22
Cigarettes UK ┬г7 per 20 Thailand Bt70/┬г1.50
Drink in average bar (not agogo) UK ┬г2.50-ish Sunee Bt80/┬г1.70-ish
Male escort for the night UK ┬г100-┬г200++-ish Thailand ┬г30-ish
Taxi from airport to hotel 20km UK ┬г50 Thailand 100km Bt1000/┬г25-ish.
Train scottish city to London 500-600 miles ┬г100 return Bkk to chiang Mai ┬г10-ish one way
Cafe coffee UK -┬г2.50 Thailand Bt80/┬г1.75-ish
Cooked breakfast UK-┬г5-ish+ Thailand Bt150/┬г3.30 or less
Pineapple snack UK-┬г1.50-ish Thailand Bt20/┬г0.40p
Litre drinking water UK-┬г2+ Thailand Bt14/┬г0.30p

*I cannot offer comparison for drinks in a scottish gay agogo bar to a Thai one as there are no f**king gay agogo bars in scotland to compare*

Of course it does depend on your 'tastes' but the above are fairly average. Many of the above comparisons are also about right for Spain a popular destination, as well as UK.

For me personally Thailand is still considerably cheaper for most things I buy in Europe. I still regard 45 baht to the pound well worth the holiday/visit compared to Eurpean destinations. If hiring many boys is high on your list then there is virtaully no comparison in overall costs. And that's apart from the far superior experiences gay thai 'escorts' offer in terms of attitude, service and quality. It's still got a very long way to go to even equal european costs never mind be more expensive!

The amount of baht available in exchange for a british pound would have to drop quite a bit more before I'm going to be considering alternatives! On a ┬г1000 holiday money exchange of a few months ago Bt49,000 to the present Bt45,000 that's down Bt4,000=one night's clubbing. Not a disaster by any means. Way too much doom and gloom from the timmberty's of this world...my opinion only.

what was that all about ??? are your drugs wearing off ?
the cost in thailand has gone up over 10% in the last 4 or 5 months for a traveller from england, in europe the price has remained the same for the last 4 or 5 months ... now give me a 10000000 word reply how you work out europe which you admit yourself you cant compare is still cheaper compared to thailand over the last 4 or 5 months.
i guess when your main objective is trying to put someone down, rather than taking any notice of what they have said, you maybe lose track a bit ...
take some lessons off kung whatever his name is ... at least he doesnt try to be clever.
and im sure markie will be pleased you felt the need to ruin his thread with yet another of your personal vendettas against someone you dont know :hello2:

Calm down timmy! you'll rupture something letting all that pent-up aggression out in one go! Any chance of actually answering the post and your sweeping statement about Thailand now being more expensive than Europe, rather than just replying with insults and temper tantrums. You say it's more expensive to visit Thailand now than Europe........I say even with a poor exchange rate it's still cheaper to visit Thailand now. Just give a few examples of why you think Thailand is more expensive than Europe, I've given a few where it's cheaper in Thailand compared to UK/Spain (both in Europe timmy).

I cant really make out some of your garbled reply...something about my saying that europe is still cheaper than...huh?...not with you there, i said the opposite.

I agree with markie1 about drink prices in the more expensive agogo and show bars...I'm just saying that it's the exception compared to the rest of the things visitors buy in Thailand (compared to Europe since you brought it up) even with the poor exchange rate of 45Baht to the ┬г. I've seen a similar wild sweeping claim to yours about how Thailand is now more expensive than europe on another forum, where a couple of cherry-picked items were rolled out to 'prove' that fact. I just think that example along with your claim could do with a bit of balance, thats all, its nothing to do with 'putting anyone down'.

Christ timmy, most of your posts nowadays are either bitter, angry, depressing, miserable replies or out-and-out sniper attacks. Vendettas? drugs? Ruining threads? you seem to be experiencing some kind of paranoia episode....................Cheer up! Thailand remains superb value along with all it's other positives... concentrate on them, maybe you'll feel a bit happier!

well not quite 100000 words but not far off... good effort !!
put downs, taking threads off course personal insults .. and there i was thinking you was going to have a go at me rather than talking about yourself ...
im sure everyone who reads this will give thanks for your wisdom, but im also sure they would wonder why you bother to reply to threads that you yourself admit to not understanding a word of.
no wonder you waste so much money tho, taking a train to scotland for ┬г100 when you could fly for about ┬г20, now be a good boy, run along and check out ryan air to see how far out i am.
do you know its better for you to just not reply when you start to lose grip, you know like you did when you accused me of supporting scj on his board, remember ? the board i never joined. if you cant find it, do reply and say you dont have a clue as to what im writting and ill send a link.
