If you're in Chiang Mai for Songkran you might find this guide to gay events over the holiday weekend useful: Gay Songkran in Chiang Mai (http://www.gayinchiangmai.com/News/2013/gay-songkran/)

Other great news in Chiang Mai is that a fab new venue has just opened in the Chang Puek district of Chiang Mai. G-Star Vintage had an awesome opening night party and is a great addition to the fun party and late night scene. More details: G-Star comes to Chiang Mai (http://www.gayinchiangmai.com/News/2013/g-star-comes-to-chiang-mai/) for more updates check out the Gay Chiang Mai Facebook page: facebook.com/ChiangMaiGay (https://www.facebook.com/ChiangMaiGay)

That certainly is great news for Chiang Mai. If it is set up and run in the same style as the one in Rachada, Bkk it will be an excellent addition. I have been to G-Star Rachada a few times including one Songkran night where water guns and powder were issued at the door and it was a wet scene inside with all electrics under clear plastic, it was a brilliant night. I have had a few good nights out in Chiang Mai over the years but late nights were enjoyed in the karaokes as I didnt go to Mandalay due to the reputation that farangs were not welcomed with 'open arms' by the management. It will be good to have a gay orientated club with no issues regarding where the clientelle comes from.

That's certainly also the case at Seaman Pub too.

My bf(#3) and I will be arriving in Chiang Mai for one week on 18 April... so we'll be checking into all the places to go. He hasn't been to Chiang Mai since he was a child.... and I've only been there once.... the end of January, for one week, with bf(#2)...

Thanks for the info.

Quick update on G-Star Vintage; this place has absolutely taken Chiang Mai by storm. It is now THE place to go without any doubt and foreigners are very welcome. Indeed, it already has a reasonable ex-pat following. It's fun, intimate and a great place to meet new friends.

For a full update on the scene in Chiang Mai read this article: Chiang Mai Gay Scene Update тАУ June 2013 (http://www.gayinchiangmai.com/News/2013/chiang-mai-gay-scene-update/)

Hope someone finds the information useful.

I will never understand Bon Ton's personal agenda. He points to articles touting Chiang Mai that leave out the best set of bars in Chiang Mai for reasons that might boggle the mind. Two very good bars within feet of each other are Secrets and CU bar located in the Night Bazaar area. Check out this article in "Out" magazine and ignore the personal misdirections of Bon Ton. PM me if you want any information on why he does this.

By the way I have no vested interest in either of these places, nor is any gay club located in my rental housing.

May I second this post. I am a frequent and long visitor to CM and find these two bars extremely attractive.
I have had many evenings of fun, good natured, with the patrons, the boys and the owners.
It may not be sophisticated, but quite enjoyable. Real fun to be had.
I never understood the bashing the places in night bazar received.

Check out this article in "Out" magazineThoroughly agree, excellent article by James Barnes which says exactly what the article on www.gayinchiangmai.com (http://www.gayinchiangmai.com/News/2013/chiang-mai-gay-scene-update/) says. i.e G-Star Vintage is far and away the most happening place in Chiang Mai right now. Great to see that Secrets and CU Bar are advertising in Out in Thailand now too. I wish them every success.

ItтАЩs also interesting to note that the current favourites in the Out in Thailand readers choice poll for Chiang Mai (see www.out-in-thailand.com (http://www.out-in-thailand.com/) )are exactly those mentioned in the article I referred to. Surely all those readers canтАЩt be wrong? :dontknow:

Funny everyone in Chiang Mai agrees with me about your bias to these bars, and laughs along with me about your dumb and self-serving reasons for this bias.

Actually they are. I think it has to do with how the results are tabulated, but don't know. Once again most of Chiang Mai understands why the results are coming out different from reality.

I really do not have a vendetta against you, but against your silly self serving bias to these bars, and I hope your web business continue to grow and you host more sites like the "OUT" magazine site.

The simple way to find out the truth is just to come to Chiang Mai and check it out yourself. Slow or high season these are Chiang Mai's most friendly and popular bars. However, they do not get busy to late, but they do stay open until the wee hours of the morning. My opinion or reality? Come and find out yourself. The one bad thing going against them is they do not have a web site, nor have they hired a web hosting service like many other places in Chiang Mai. So their large popularity is only based on word of mouth from the locals, and visitors who have found the places.
