Loei 'could yield 1 million tonnes of gold'

Initial data from the Northeast province of Loei indicates the likely discovery of gold ore deposits in quantities large enough to free Thailand from its current and future debt burdens.
The ore was discovered by a foreign company that has been operating in the area for some time, said a high-ranking official from the Natural Resources and Environment Ministry.

"They said the probable mineral reserves were a million tonnes of gold," the source said, asking for anonymity, as the discovery remains classified.

By coincidence I was watching TV here this evening in Australia and there was a update on the linked article below. The lady in question fled LOS as she feared a "set up" again.
In the the tv interview she mentioned gold was disappearing from the mine. There were several other " serious allegations" ...as the interviewer called them...but the audio was "bleeped" over them.
No April fool story here regarding the existence of gold in LOEI, but how much of it is actually there remains to be seen.

I think these reports are true. There is no indicatio for an April joke and from research a while ago, I know that there is a gold mine in Pichit province.

Gold has long been mined in Thailand. Here's an 1893 map of Thailand showing gold mines. Although I have the map on my computer I don't know if you can enlarge it enough from this website to be of any help.

I worked in geology for 25 years, but it was oil not gold. I admit I don't know anything about gold, but 1,000,000 tons of probable reserves is quite a claim. Can't you just see the Thai politicians fighting for a piece of that action?

I just tried looking at it on this website and see that it is far too indistinct. If anyone wants a legible copy they could send me a personal message.

christianpfc, the map shows a gold mine in Pichit. Here's a photo of it. Have you seen it? My boy is from Pichit. I'll have to check that out.

In 1999, after the discovery of gold in the Chatree area (Pichit), a real goldrush began, with more then 100.000 prospectors coming from all over Thailand, to try there luck in this area. Many of them lost their lives, due to the dangerous circumstances while digging deep holes to reach the gold.
Gold production increased rapidly, after the opening of two professional mines, the Chatree - and the Phutapfa Gold mine.
Despite the opening of these professional mines, local people are still allowed to mine for gold. They can get a digging and gold washing permit from the local authorities. They are allowd to dig for soil around quarry hill under strong regulations and they have to pay a given price per bag of soil.

I agree with you christian. What most people don't realize is that all the gold on earth came from a collision with an ancient asteroid, Aurum, which exploded high above the earth a billion years ago. The resultant debris was scattered randomly around the earth.

Yes there's gold in Loei,but all the "Gold Diggers" are in Pattaya !!

People also don't realize that all diamonds on earth come from the remains of an asteroid, Diamante, which struck earth some millions of years ago. No fooling!

Amazing! But equally amazing is the fact that prior to those 2 asteroids you mentioned,there was a also a huge asteroid that broke up in the the Earths atmosphere and caused everlasting effects on the human population. It was named Asteroid BS.It came out of the blue and was completely unexpected ...yes even back then!
According to scientific studies most of it burned up on entry ( don't we all!) but it did impact on some of us..
The result is ,on certain days ,on certain months, those that were affected, come out with the the most blatant BS you could imagine!
Yes! BS here,BS there,it's just unstoppable !
The degree of exposure is not quantifiable ,it only surfaces at certain times .....depending on the individual and the level of exposure. But it manifests itself mostly on gay forums!

*Legend:
ppm= parts per million.
ppb=parts per billion
BS = Bullshit!

Actually Asteroid BS did not come out of the blue, it originated in the constellation Taurus .

Francois , it is patently obvious from your posts on this topic, all the BS comes from your home planet, URANUS !

I found the following links a while ago and want to go to this place and observe how gold is extracted manually. Visiting the mine would be interesting as well. If you have any information, please let me know. I emailed the photographer, no reply.

Zebedee, did you also post on the Bitch Board? It seems to suit your personality. Does something as simple as an April Fool post irritate you to the point of nastiness?

Good luck jvt22222! Geezer is a world renowned geologist and you can be assured he would never joke about something as serious as a 1 million tonnes of gold. Or would he?

Merci Zebedee.

Actually my "foolish" posts had an "element" or two of truth, pardon the pun.

Asteroids do create diamonds upon impact although of an industrial grade. Supposedly there is huge trove of them in a crater in Russia.

Plus a planet of Diamonds and asteroids of gold. See links below.
