Only ONE restaurant in Thailand makes it on to San Pellegrino's best 50 restaurants in the world list... Nahm, which is at the Metropolitan Hotel in Bangkok.

http://www.theworlds50best.com/awards/1-50-winners/ (Nahm is number 50)

I'm never going to visit most of these restaurants as most are outside Asia/Australia which is where I spend the bulk of my time.

But I noticed they also have a Best 50 Restaurants in Asia list! Check it out: http://www.worlds50best.asia/asias-50-b ... html#t1-50 (http://www.worlds50best.asia/asias-50-best-restaurants.html#t1-50)

I think we'll make it a goal to get to all 50 of them.

FIVE restaurants in Bangkok made it on this list... I've only eaten at two of them.

The ones I haven't tried are Bo Larn, Eat Me and Gaggan... Anyone been to any of these and got any comments?

Bo Lam is run by two of David Thompsons previous chefs at Nahm London, obviously David Thompson inspired [he may be an Aussie but he is accepted by those who know what they are talking about as the No. 1 Thai chef and food historian]...amazed you have not been to EAt Me it has been Bangkok's gay favourite fine dining restaurant for years! Gaggan causes many different comments.

Of course Nahm Bangkok is one of the world's great restaurants for foodies who are devoid of hang-ups. The set menu at about $35 is a taste journey never ti be forgotten.

Actually that famous Bali web site Balieats also lists their favourite [and non-favourite] places in a few other cities outside of BAli including Bangkok, etc [they hide them under the list of Hotels, no doubt tricking their own indexing system].

Hahaha... I didn't realise that!

That means ALL FIVE restaurants in Bangkok that made it on the S Pellegrino 50 Best Restaurants in Asia were setup by foreigners or foreign trained!

My partner (who is Thai) will be seething when he hears this later... I might tell him right before we have sex. :rolling:

1. Nahm - was setup by Aussie, David Thomspon.

2. Sra Bua - was setup by some Danish dude, I think.

3. Bo Lam - not sure if the two chefs you refer to are Thai but it sounds like they were trained by the Aussie, David Thompson!

4. Eat Me - I read this was setup by an American

5. Gaggan - Is Indian cuisine setup by an Indian

It validates my own experience that the Thais are a talented bunch with some unique and compelling strengths. But they have some intrinsic weaknesses that too often inhibit them from commercial success... I am generalising but there is a valid basis to this generalisation.

What happens, is you throw someone else, often a Western or Chinese business person into the mix and you have a good team for a successful business.

Is that for gay Thais or gay farang? Because I pretty much never mix with farangs when I'm in Thailand, unless they're friends on holidays from abroad.

Anyway... I'll check it out. Does look interesting.
