Rapes in India

The news has had several articles reporting rapes and attempted rapes in India. Is this something that has been going on for a long time but just unreported or have the Indian males gone crazy? The latest news reports an attempted rape by a hotel owner of a British lass. This seems to be in the news all over the world and India is getting some bad publicity.

Rapes have been going on all over the world, and is still going on all over the world. India is no special case.

It's true that rape happens everywhere, but what is striking to me are the reports of gang rape - that is certainly not a common occurence in western Europe.
