Hello. I was wondering if anyone has jumped through the hoops necessary
to receive Government Pension from Australia and retired to Thailand prior to
that date?

Or maybe someone knows other Thailand message boards that may deal with
this complex subject. I would be happy to join any board to get sound advice.

Just trying to lay the right foundation so I don't get caught in a bad situation.
As usual Thanks.

I found that the most acurate advice you can get is on Thaivisa.com or at the expat club that meets here in Pattaya. I would like to say that our members have good sound advice and can help you but sometimes there may be a difference in experiences.

Would you care to at least start here because someties we can handle it for you. In the cases of retirement visas they are the saame no matter hich country you are from.

Thanks Neal.
i will search Thaivisa.com to see if anything addresses my concerns.

I would like to keep this post running because i know we have a few posters from Australia
but not sure of their situations. My concerns are not of the visa type; it is of the
collecting AU pension while living overseas. Also requirements for lodging for a pension
while I am away from Australia. Not sure if anyone can help, but I think it may be
a good place to try.

Thanks guys.

Surely you should be checking the relevant government Web site http://www.humanservices.gov.au/custome ... Supplement (http://www.humanservices.gov.au/customer/enablers/outside-australia#AgePensionPensionSupplement)

Unless you have lived, worked and paid tax in Australia for 25 years you don't get the full pension if you are overseas for more than 26 weeks. It tapers off based on the number of years you have lived, worked and paid tax in Australia. http://www.humanservices.gov.au/custome ... mAustralia (http://www.humanservices.gov.au/customer/enablers/outside-australia#PensionpaymentrateswhileabsentfromAustra lia)

According to the Web site the rules changed on 1 January 2013 so I doubt that someone currently resident in Thailand will have up to date information. I would be getting paid advice from someone in Australia (so you can sue them for negligent advice if they're wrong).
