What on earth are curtained bars? I assume that they are some kind of beer bar with a curtained screen rather than a front door. But why have they such a mixed reputation? What are they like inside? Do many farang drink in them?

What on earth are curtained bars?

They are not really curtains. They are bars which have wooden screens positioned so that passers by cannot see what is going on inside.

They are premises usually operated by owners who have had their gogo bars closed, for various reasons, by the authorities.

They also have the doubtful "advantage" of not being classed as a gogo bar (less tea money), even though they have boys doing "shows" behind the "curtains". Usually masturbating in front of customers.

There you have it!

I presume these are found in Sunse as I have never seen this in BT, but then I tend to visit the bars I like rather than exploring new ones, I am probably missing out!

So, they are controversial. Yes, thought they would be.

I have read that CU Bar is a 'curtain bar' and some place called' Sawatdee bar' (never heard of it; I don't think it exists any more.)But why do they attract such a bad press? Is it under age stuff? If so, then why do they continue?

Controversial is your description, myself, I call them creative and innovative. A drinking bar with private shows on-demand, sounds like fun. The bad press came from their former go-go bar operations.

The bad press came from their former go-go bar operations. and the fact that they continue to have underage staff to do the show for you.

Haven't seen the shows but if true it certainly doesn't have to be that way. The concept I find different, no go-go bar license and I am guessing lower protection money to BIB, so lower overhead. I remember Rock Hard Boys in Jomtien, they did shows in the back airconditioned room when there were enough customers. I am surprised other Jomtien bars haven't tried it. Everything is low keyed, low profile, no advertising but spontaneous.

Jomtien bars are not permitted to have sex shows, or even ago-go bars, that's why you do not see them in Jomtien Complex, Rock Hard Boys was closed as soon as the owner found out what was going on inside, regarding Sunee "curtain bars" nothing innnovative about having stoned deleted year old straight guys masturbating on stage to girlie porn, just illegal, and rather boring, have you seen the state of these bars? clearly, apart from saving money on paying the BIB, they don't have to pay any cleaners either!

These bars sound like Holiday 2 that used to be near sunnee ...you walked in and there were 3 or 4 " rough" looking ( being polite) masturbating for a tip....I stumbled in there once several years ago, and never again...in fact I felt sad as it seemed so degrading for those guys, apart from which the place was filthy....give me BT any day

Watching young straight guys beating their meat to straight porn is LESS interesting to me than.... masterbating alone in my own room.

At least the guys in my fantasy mind are....... gay.... and enjoying what they're doing.

( By the way, I gotta ask. What is BIB? )

There must be a lot of pushy mamasams in these places, and beer must be sky high in price.

Does anyone remember the Sky Bar next the swimming pool: I recall it was a bit of a pick-up joint with a pool table. Is it still there?

March 14th, 2013, 07:12
It is gone and all boarded up.

....

Why would you say that in comparison to other bars? Prices are about the same as other Sunee drinking bars.

Rubbish.

They are a lot more than ordinary Sunnee Bars. About the same as Gogo bars.

When asked why they said..."because show".
Best avoided imho.

The only curtain bar I have heard of is CU bar. Is it the only one in Sunee?

March 16th, 2013, 21:29
Just do a little research. Put CU bar in the Search box at the top of the page. You'll find answers to most of your questions by using this method.

So, in addition to CU Bar, what other bars in Sunee are considered to be 'curtain' bars'?

The old Good Boys bar is now "curtained".

The old Good Boys Bar is under total renovation. The curtain/screen bars are CU Bar, U-Turn Bar (across from CU Bar) and the old Sawatdee bar.
I have seen some very handsome guys outside both CU and U-Turn bars.

As gossip.....I have been told by a farang with direct experience that CU Bar has a short time room upstairs which is accessed by, of all things, a ladder.

Are these those rather charming beaded curtains of yesterday which ever hip middle class house had over the kitchen door in the summer or are are we talking something a bit more substantial.

are are we talking something a bit more substantial.

Yes, I have no idea why they are called curtain bars.
They are wooden folding sliding doors.

CU Bar has closed and a "For Sale" sign is on the door. The boy and all the furnishings have moved across the street to the refurbished Good Boys Bar which is now an open beer bar with screens near the back.

It was early and I was the only customer there. I went there to play snooker with the Sweet Prince of Sunee. (My nick name for one of their very handsome staff.) Many of the boys working there were handsome in my opinion and all seemed to be of legal age. Even though the bar has been remodeled as an open beer bar it still feels a little grotti. The light level is very low that I could hardly see the balls...and the ones on the table were difficult to see as well. Actually all the boys wore street clothes and nothing was displayed although the Sweet Prince was keen for a few hugs and caresses. Behind the screens were couches for any extracirricular activities, I suppose. My diet coke was Bt 150. The boys were very friendly. I suggest, before you condemn Good Boys because of past reputation, you give it a try.

PS. The staff were all boy boys with not a ladyboy in sight.

Boys in street clothes and very low lighting will not entice me to enter a bar.

The drinks in these bars are about the same price as the remaining Sunee go go bars, some of the boys appear less than legal they offer much the same as those closed by the BIB, on a much smaller scale.

Doug...I certaunly was not condemning it due to its past history, I loved the out in public sleazy atmosphere and goings on...participated 100%....kinda miss it..plan to be back at the end of April and was sorry to read it had been closed down..
